Cures Diabities, Will lose 80-90% of your excess weight, today the gain
backs are rare, Eliminates most drugs your currently are taking fast, and
you don't have to go for fills all the time. Bad side is you will take
supliments all the rest of your life, as you will have mal-nutrition, there
are issues for at least 6 weeks tht make you ask what have I done, but that
will pass, you don't love eating any longer, and the good stuff will make
you sick, and finally, you can trade one addiction for another, meaning you
may stop overeating, but there are some cases of excessive gambling,
shopping, and other aditicve things thathappen to about 10% of RNY
patients. Also you will never drink heavy again, and eating Fat, sugar, or
Carbs in excess can make you sick for several hours.

Wow. I couldn't limit myself to only 5 good points but the bad points
would be less than 5. Then again those would be my points.
Ask the same about reasons to have children or anything else and you'll get
soooo many answers.
What I think is a good point someone else might think is bad and vise
versa. No one can answer your question for you...only for themselves.

The good far outweighs the bad... Cures type 2 diabetes in over 90% of
patients. Reverses other conditions like high blood pressure, knee pain.
You feel better, you look better, you can easily fit in to an airplane seat
or amusement park ride. You can cross your legs when you sit down. Shop for
normal sized clothes and look nice in them. Be accepted more readily in
society. So many good things... The bad things are not being able to eat
sweets or enjoy dining out. But you get over that, and it's a small price
to pay. Some nausea at times for some people. For me, having to take
vitamins every day for life is not a big deal. In a nutshell, I am soooooo
glad I had the surgery.

I just have to say that I'd caution you from posting that gastric bypass
"cures" diabetes. It's always amazing what the FDA seems to smile
at, and what it frowns upon. I'm unable to share with you how many people
have been "cured" of diabetes with my weight loss method. The
common factor is the weight LOSS, not the procedure. The good points about
the surgery would be able to be reduced to "weight loss", rather
than listing hundreds of other factors, since the side effects of weight
loss are all of these other bonuses. So - my "good points" list
for Gastric Bypass? Most people lose weight.

I disagree with Ruth S. comments about it being weight loss, and not the
surgery itself that cures Diabetes. Yes, weight loss through dieting or any
means can cure Diabetes. However, Doctor's have been finding that in the
vast majority of patients who have Gastric Bypass Surgery, their Diabetes
is completely reversed within a few days or weeks of surgwery, before any
significant weight was even lost. Doctor's were puzzled by this, and an
Italian Doctor began researching it. He found that Gastric Bypass Surgery
cures Diabetes in over 90% of patients so quickly due to the surgery
itself. I can not explain it in great detail because I am not a Doctor, but
the jist of it is that, when they cut/alter the lower intestine during the
surgery, this alteration causes hormones to be released that rapidly causes
a reversal of Type 2 Diabetes. Doctors are now hoping to come up with a
modified version of this surgery, for people who are Type 2 Diabetics, but
not overweight. The modified version of the surgery could be used to cure
Diabetes in thos patients as well, without the weight loss. I appreciate
Ruths comments about how Diabetes can be cured through weight loss (like
dieting) but, as I have just explained, she is misinformed about the fact
the Gastric Bypass DOES cure Diabetes, the surgery itself cures it, not
only the weight loss.

5 good points: lose excess weight, live longer, eat healthier, control
diabetes and shop for normal sized clothes.
5 bad points: can gain some weight back, appetitie comes back like before
weightloss surgery, food cravings can be over whelming sometimes like
wanting sugar, dumping can be horrible for hours and you will not
necessarily come off all meds. As well as if any damage done to joints from
Rheumatoid arthritis and neuropathy from the diabetes cannot be cured, but
managed. My doctor told me that my diabetes is not cured but is controlled
and if eating healthy and exercising should stave off the high blood
sugars.

It's much harder than I thought it would be to eat - I'm still very limited
in what I can eat. Even though eating a lot less, am spending more on food
because of the limitations. Very difficult to eat out, cause food at the
more affordably priced places tends to be high carb & high fat. And I
would do it over again without a second thought. My blood pressure and
blood sugars are normal, and I'm off three meds. Have more energy. Feel
better. Can fit in an airplane seat - and don't even need a seat belt
extender. No more backaches. Feet don't hurt anymore. Can sit in any
chair without worrying about breaking it.
