Question:
Eating habits

I am 12 pounds post op from lapband 4-28-08. I am happy with my results so far. The thing is that I have not been eating healthy lately. My first fill is 5-30-08. I have been eating less, but I do not always eat healthy. Maybe I am being to hard on myself. Starting Sunday, I am going back to my protien diet to get back on track. Please advise.    — savoy7658 (posted on May 10, 2008)

Hi Janice, Until you get some restriction in your band, it is hard to control the eating. It does get easier. Trust me. Getting back to basics, protein first, vegies next, no carbs (or at least very few carbs and only good ones)last, getting at least 64 ounces of water a day, exercising - just taking a walk is great exercise...the basics will help keep you in check until you get your proper restriction. Good luck. Vicki Why don't you come over to the lapband forum? There are lots of folks there who can help you.

I had surgery for Lap Band 4-16-08 and I am down 23 pounds and I will have my first fill 5-28-08 and I understand about not having the restriction but my doctor said it is normal. When you fall off, just go back to the basic and walk. Your stomach is still healing and the swelling is going down so less restriction. Good Luck....

You are going thru what we refer to as "Bandster Hell" ....you can't eat as much as you did before surgery but you are eating more athan you should and still not being satisified.....If you are on solids...then eat the amounts you are suppose to eat...make sure your protein is solid protein and eat it forst...then if you have room eat a bit more....If you feel you have to eat between meals make sure you are eating protein...such as string cheese ( excellant choice) or so cottage cheese....the more protein you eat the fuller you will feel for longer periods of time......don't get into bad habits early on as they they grow into worse one's...remember the band is around your stomach not your head ....we all had food issues before surgery and you are going to have those same issues now.....so you will need to work on the emotional eating.....boredom eacting and etc......that's important that you are able to address those mething besides food ...you are doing great ....just dust yourself off and get back to healthier choices.
