Question:
I got a call today from my pcp's office saying my creatinine is high!

my creatinine is 1.9 and they want me to see a kidney dr, in june of all times. I have not had my surgery yet due to changing to another surgeon. Could weight cause my level to be up? I'm at 450. Will this effect me getting surgery?Has anyone else had this happen if so what did you do? I'm trying not to get nervous but I have waited so long to have this surgery.    — bettyjac5 (posted on April 11, 2008)

If you are eating a lot of protein or are dehydrated that could possibly make it high. Creatinine is usually a very good indicator of kidney function though, so I would make a serious effort to see a nephrologist ASAP and NOT wait unti June ! He may do a ultrasound of your kidneys and possibly some other testing. I am a kidney patient myself and I really wouldn't wait 2 months to have this checked out.

Please don't wait to get this checked out. Kidney disease can be very silent, and rapid. Then again, it may turn out to be nothing. If you have to wait the 2 months for an eval, I would ask my PCP to run a 24 hr. creatinine clearance. (You collect all your urine for 24 hrs in a container) That will give them some more info to go on, and it will more than likely be one of the first tests a nephrologist will do, anyway. Stay hydrated and ask your doc about your diet if you are on high protein. A few symptoms to also watch for: high blood pressure and protein in your urine (Which makes the urine look foamy). Tell your doc if you have these symptoms. God bless.

I agree with the above post. have your Dr check 24hr test then he shoulod also order an ultrasound of your kidneys, this way they can check the size to see if they are normal, I have a similar problem and need to wait 2 months for the nephrologyst and I thought that was outrageous to wait that long. at least I had an ultrasound of my kidneys and they are normal in size also ask your DR about your adrenal glands they are located right above your kidneys and sometimes that may be the issue and not your kidneys, Hope this information helped.....Jannette
