Question:
Low Temperature

did anyone run a low temperature 96 after surgery? My husband's temperature has been running around that since he came home from hospital. Had Lapband on Friday -- today is Sunday.    — keren1527 (posted on November 19, 2007)

I wouldn't worry very much about that little bit of a difference. He should be seeing his doctor soon for a follow up so if he doesn't have any other problems then all should be well. HOWEVER, if he is concerned and you are concerned then no one is going to sleep and someone needs to make a phone call. No one is going to blame you for checking it out. You may feel silly but obviously you want what's best for your husband or you wouldn't have asked.

I would recommend checking with the doctor. Normally the surgeon's office are willing to address your questions, and if there is real concern, the doctor will most assuredly speak with you. Doesn't sound right to me, unless he typically runs a low temperature. There are people who do run normal body temps under 98 degrees.

Normal body temp is around 96 -98 just since it doesn't spike.

A consistently low temp is a sign of an under active thyroid. Christine

My normal temp is only 96.7 if it gets to 98.6 I know I have infection somewhere.. :( I think guys temps run lower than ladies. I heard that once from my old doc. So maybe his temp is "normal" now compared to what it used to be. Have a great week. God bless you all Paula

What does his temperature usually run? Mine is always around 96; I recently had a collapsed lung and pneumonia and "only" spiked to 99 despite severe symptoms. Maybe this is normal for him, but if you're really concerned I'd suggest checking with the surgeon because my surgeon routinely checks my temp and blood pressure with each visit and his may also have done that and therefore have a preop reading.
