Question:
Medi-cal? What insurance will approve fastest?
I posted before on the message boards not realizing this would be a better place for my question... Hello All! I am new to this website and I was hoping ya'll could help me with some questions I have. Currently, my Medi-cal application is pending but I know it will be approved due to my income (or lack there of.) Does anyone have any tips on what the best insurace is through Medi-cal if I want to be approved for RNY? Also, what kind of hoops does Medi-cal make you jump through to be approved? I am 5'4 and about 285 pounds. My BMI is 48.9, and I have slightly high blood pressure and ankle/shin/knee problems. I also suspect that I have other health problems, but I am not sure because I have no had medical insurace for about 4 years. I just want to get this surgery so I can live again...I've gotten so overweight I can't even work-out without extreme pain. Thanks for any information you may have on Medi-cal! — [Deactivated Member] (posted on November 13, 2007)

I would call around to the Dr.s and see if they will take medi-cal for
gastric bypass. When you find one that does, ask them what steps to take
towards getting approval. There is usually someone in the office that
deals with all the insurance billing.

I had the gastric bypass in 2005 and I was on Blue Cross Medi-Cal. I did
not know this before I started the process, but they paid for every single
thing referrable to the gastric bypass. I didn't have to pay one single
Cent. You will have to find a surgeon who will accept Medi-Cal. That may be
your only dilimma. I wish you luck.
