Question:
OT: Bipolar and getting pregnant ASAP

Hi friends, The hubby and I are finally ready to have a baby. I have lost 190 lbs. and the docs say I'm finally healthy enough to do it! :) Here's the problem: I have bipolar and take 5 medications for it. I cannot be on ANY of these meds, even while trying for the baby. So it's imperative that I get pregnant as soon as possible - to shorten the amount of time I'm off my meds. Right now - summertime - is the best time for me to be doing this and I'm extremely stable and have the blessing of my psych. But I'm just really scared to be without these meds! I think if I can just get pregnant...I'll be able to deal with everything better. I know it's gonna be hard, though! Are there any methods or wives' tales about getting pregnant quicker? I'll take ANY advice I can get! lol. Thanks in advance! ~Sarah in VA    — platypus (posted on June 12, 2007)

Geritol (vitamins)... I was told of this when trying to get pregnant. I used a generic Geritol ( I found at Wal-Mart).....

I was told once that you are most fertile about the 13th day after your period ends. This worked for me twice. I made sure to "do the deed" starting on the 10th day until the 15th to "MAKE SURE". LOL. Hubby didn't seem to mind. :o)

I work with a woman that switched from other meds to Prozac when she was pregnant. Perhaps this could help you to. Run it by the doctor and see what they say. Congrats on your weightloss and happy trying!

Relax... Your body knows when it is under stress and will protect itself. Try not to worry and do what comes natural, the rest is up to God. Best wishes to you and your husband. Congradulations on your weight loss!

My husband had an extremely low sperm count, so according to his doctor,it would be nearly impossible to have children. My OB/GYN, however, told me to intentionally not do anything for a week before i knew i should start my period, and wait about 7 days after the day i started, then try. By then the sperm count has time to be built up high, even if there's not a problem in that area, and according to him, that was the most fertile time for me. I got pregnant twice that way, within the first 2 months of trying. Of course, stressing over becoming pregnant can make it harder for you to become pregnant, so try not to become to overwhelmed and stressed out over the whole thing. Best of luck!

Those ovulation predictor kits did the trick for me, twice! Knowing when you're ovulating is the secret. You can find relatively cheap kits in Walmart, Kmart, CVS, etc. Good luck! Babies are a wonderful blessing.
