Generally speaking there are two liquid diets- clear and full- usually
several days before surgery you go on a clear liquid diet- this includes
jello (sugar free), crystal lite, sugar free popsicles, herbal teas ( in
medicine we say clear liquid is something you could essentially read the
newpaper through- full liquid comes about a week or so after surgery then
you can add things like sugar free instant breakfast, slim fast, instant
cocoa, sugar free puddings, non-fat milk and some doc's include mashed
potatoes (without butter/margarine). Hope this helps. Donna

When I was on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I could have Slim Fast High
Protein or Boost High Protein for "meals" and broth (not soup),
Jello and any non caloric, non caffeinated, non carbonated beverage. So
not a lot of things for me. And I can't understand how olives can be
considered as appropriate food to eat.

olives are not liquid. Be sure you are doing what your doctor says. The
pre liquid diet is a cleansing of the bowel in prep for surgery but also a
test. A test to conclude if you are really willing to do some changes in
your life without cheating and fudging. Don't fail. Follow your surgeons
advice. You will need to no and after surgery. Take care, Patricia P.

Hey, LIQUID! CLEAR is best then you won't feel all funky! Lower sodium too.
Take potassium pills with it. What part of LIQUID did you not figure out?
Olives, omg...hahahahaha this is a joke right? hahahahaha funny! Do not put
in food processor either!!! sheesh...you want to do this right and have it
work? Or do you want to mess up from before the start? You sound like your
own worst enemy! Try to pay attention to what is BEST for gorgeous, thin
you!

Are you talking about the olives you put in your martini? Ha, just kidding!

Wow Lou, a little harsh don't ya think? This is supposed to be a SUPPORT
page. Some liquid diets allow one meal of steamed veggies per day but I'm
not so sure about olives. If this is the case ask your nut and best of
luck Rhonda.

Hi-- I'm 18 months post op down 165lbs-- my husband, however, is in the
middle of his 2 week liquid diet right now-- our surgeon has him on
Bariatric Essentials powder 11 scoops per day-- and he can have broccolli,
cauliflower, asparagas, lettuce, bell peppers, zucchini, crook neck squash,
onion, spinach and radishes-- so he has a salad every night using just
vinegar for his dressing-- this is his doctors orders-- hope this helps.
Good Luck

Hi... Liquid is liquid... I would imagine olives are definitely not on the
liquid diet list.... don't try to fit old foods into the new mold.. you are
going to have to make necessary changes. In the end, you can cheat, but
the only one you are hurting is yourself. We have all done that enough to
ourselves.... if you want this to be a successful TOOL, then follow the
instructions and don't ad lib. your nutritionist and surgeon should have
developed a list of preop foods/drinks that you can have. If it was not
offered to you, be assertive and ask... not everything is going to be given
to you on a silver tray, you have to take some responsibility and do some
research and seeking of information.. which, I know, is what you are doing
now.. good luck on your surgery and remember adhere to the rules... it is
essential for the LONGTERM success.....

I work in a Surgical Weight Loss Center and have also had the LapBand
surgery. The liquid diet IS the hardest part - but also the reason for
drinking liquids is to 'shrink' you liver. You liver is kinda gelatenous
(jello-like) and coming off of sugars and carbs, makes the liver retract
and become firmer. This allows your surgeon to maneuver the laparascopic
instruments during surgery. Hand in there and NO no vegatable can be
utilized as a liquid. Our patients can have ONE serving of V-* juice (not
the chunk kind or the Splash) a day. But always check with your doc. Good
Luck!
