What does your insurance company say. None of us will know this answer to your question. sorry

I used to work for an insurance company & I have never heard of an OOP (out of pocket) being paid prior to a surgery. I am 5 wks post op & I have just rcvd notice that my Hospital bill was submitted to my insurance. Its nice to have the largest bill be submitted 1st because then you owe the entire OOP to 1 place. If you have alot of smaller bills submitted 1st then you sometimes have several different places you owe. Hope this helps :)

no because there is no way to determine what your out of pocket will be. BUT, you may have to pay upfront your hospital copay if you have one

Your insurance company is NOT allowed to bill until AFTER your surgery! The doctors office will be able to tell you how much your insurance company will pay and what your responsibility will be. I just found this all out myself.

I just attended a seminar and what I found out is this: If you are a self-pay (no insurance) everything is due beforehand. If you have insurance, the bill is submitted to your insurance company after the procedure and whatever they don't pay within 60 days becomes your responsibility. I'm not sure if this is different from clinic to clinic but it's what we were told. Good luck to you :)

Yes, I had to pay my $1,500.00 out of pocket expense prior to having surgery. People think that this doesn't happen, but yes unfortunately it does.

If this is your deductible, and you have not met all or part of it, it is payable before surgery. Deductibles are different than out of pocket expenses, so double check with your insurance company.

My out of pocket max is $2000 and my deductible is $500 (but I have met $250 of it) Since my hospital is out of network, I know that I will have to pay my out of pocket max because it is 60/40 split, so they require that I pay all of that up front ($2,250)

My doctor won't even put you on the schedule until you have paid at least half and the other portion has to be paid before the actual surgery date. So I beleive it just depends on the provider and not the Insurance Company.

My surgery is next friday, and I just got a letter from the hospital requesting my co-pay up front. I thought that $250 was bad!! That is just my co-pay for the hospital stay. The will bill me for the rest of my portion.
