Question:
Does anyone know the cost for lap RNY in Indianapolis?
I'm not sure Anthem will approve me, but if not, I will be self-pay to help postpone double knee replacements. — ltafling (posted on March 12, 2006)

I've read that if you opt to pay for the procedure out of pocket, the
average cost is $20,000. There are financing options available depending on
your situation and circumstances... I may be in the same boat as you. I'll
keep my fingers crossed for you, good luck with your insurance company.

It might be cheaper to go to Europe to have it done. I was a self pay and
had my gastric bypass done in Belgium. I paid less than 10k including
flight there for my gastric bypass!!! Email me if you want to learn
more... :)

Mine was $37K without complications and with all the pre-op/post-op (the 4
days in the hospital). I have seen your insurance company approve surgery
over the years. You might want to check the Insurers database and contact
some of the people that have used the same insurance. Good luck to you!

I have Anthem and they pay 90%. Self-paying will always be less than what
your insurance would get charged, so I would expect 10-17K, depending on
your doctor and hospital.

Hospitals in Europe, Mexico and Brazil -- among other places -- are going
to be much more affordable. I'm going to Brazil, one of the top rated
hospitals in the world. I only plan on staying 4 days, but the hospital
will allow me to stay up to 14 days for the same cost. The whole trip,
inlcuding hotel for 2 weeks for both DH and I should come in at about
$13,000 -- this is for the duodenal switch, which is a more expensive
surgery than the RNY. Once you've researched enough to know that you want
the surgery -- then you need to decide how much you are willing to pay for
it.
