Question:
4 days out of surgery and don't feel full?
i had surgery 10/17, rny... im healing extremely well, nurses were suprised that 2 hours after surgery (15min out of recovery) and i walked around for 30min... well my questioin/concern is do you feel a similar full feeling? i know, i'm still on the liquid diet.. but my pouch is 1oz and i can drink 12oz. and hour, even sometimes i've done 6oz in one sitting.. i sip and sip and never feel full or sick.. i even drank my protein drink in 20min. is this normal? i know everyones different but most people say they feel so full and don't want to eat... but i'm just like "liquids dont make me feel like i've eaten/drank anything".. i have exceeded my limit, and i dont want to.. but i feel like im not even close...like i want an apple asap — ClaireMarie (posted on October 20, 2005)

In the beginning you are still numb and healing. Your stomach may not
really feel full for months. I never felt full either even now (almost 5
months) I still don't feel full sometimes. You are able to drink that much
because liquids slide right out of the pouch. When you switch to solids you
will see a big difference. DO NOT eat an apple becuase that will damage
your pouch and healing process this early the skin is tough on your pouch.
Rest assured you will notice a difference soon! Good Luck!!!

Hello,
I think the keyword here is fluids.... Fluids do not stay in your tiny
tummy long. They basically shoot right through you. You can drink alot more
than you think. When you hit solids you will see a BIG difference. Don't
freak out. It's normal. When you hit solids you will fine there are things
you can eat alot of or it seems like its alot but it will be because they
are mostly water. Things like salad, watermelon, etc.... Try to keep in
mind how much you used to eat and drink and you will see that your not
taking in as much as you thought... It just seems like alot.

OMG, I had my DS 5 months ago and I still can't eat much AT ALL. I also
have trouble getting my 64 oz of fluid in....On a good day I might get 40
oz. And I know with food, I'm no where near the 100 grams of protein the
doc wants me to get. Maybe 60 a day....
I wish I could eat/drink more and not feel GROSSLY full!
I also NEVER feel hunger...EVER....I guess 'cuz with the DS they remove the
part of your stomach that is resp for the enzyme that makes you feel the
hunger pangs. Who knows...

I totally know what you are going through. I was STARVING a couple of days
after my surgery. The liquids were not cutting it and I remember sitting
on my couch crying because I was so hungry and felt like the surgery was a
failure. So, my partner, because she was hurting see me hurting, made me
some very runny cream of wheat. I remember sitting there looking at it and
thinking - if I do eat this, I have already blown it and its only been a
couple of days! But, the need to eat over powered my fear. I was only
able to get in a couple of teaspoons and I felt like I had just had
thanksgiving dinner. I was so relieved!! I then knew that the surgery had
"worked" and I was not broken. Just very hungry. Since the day
of surgery I have lost 144 pounds. I, of course, am not advocating for not
following the doctors instructions - I only know what i had to do for my
own sanity. Have faith and keep your chin up. This is truly going to be
the ride of your life!!!

I am post op for almost 3 years now. Please, Please, Please don't allow
yourself to consume that much! Break the habit of over eating now. Get
use to eating just what you are suppose to and nothing more---until you can
better control your eating and drinking. It is still an uphill battle with
me and several people who have had the surgery. One of which has almost
gained all of her weight back. Your body with eventually be able to
consume the same amount as you did prior to the surgery and youwill be able
to gain all the weight back and sometimes more. Use this time to control
the amount taken in. My stomache never seems to feel full but I see what I
am taking in and I stop myself. We feel fantastic that we are able to eat
and still loose weight---in the beginning---but trust me when I say that,
that feeling can last but so long. We will forever be addicted to food but
please take the time to re-teach your body and brain to eat in smaller
amounts. I don't mean to sound like a pooper but reality is what it is.
Many people that i know have problems keping the weight off once the time
has passed. I pray that you feel better and enjoy being on the losing
side. I love it---but like I said everyday I work at it.
Take care and be healty!
