Question:
HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN EXPERIENCING HORRIBLE SMELLS?

I AM SLOWLY COMING OUT OF THE STATE OF KETOSIS, BUT NOW I AM SMELLING SOMETHING AKIN TO CIGARETTE SMOKE ITS GETTING SO THAT MY THROAT GETS SCRATCHY AND I END UP COUGHING ALL THE TIME...NO MATTER WHERE I GO I SMELL IT BUT NO ONE ELSE DOES...HELP    — Lynne C. (posted on October 15, 1999)

Lynn, I had a RNY on August 20, 1999 and I thought I was nuts because everyone I talked to smelled like garlic. My husband my kids and my relatives that came to visit while I was off. Then I went back to work and my co-workers smelled like garlic. It was driving me crazy.... I am so glad that someone else is smelling crazy smells. It lasted for about 8 weeks.... I don't smell it any more but it did drive me nuts.

I'm just under a week postop and things smell very weird to me. Smells I have never noticed before are everywhere. I smell people and places very strongly and no it's not a mental thing. This is real and physical. I swear the doctor never operated on my nose so how does this happen?

YES!! When I was in the hospital I could hardly stand the nurses or anyone getting near me! They all smelled like they had been chewing on garlic or mothballs. Told my doc and he said a few others have reported the same thing. The "super smelling" fades away after a few weeks.
