you can use stool softners called colace or I have found if I eat about 4
dried prunes which aren't really dry a day I go on a regular basis and feel
much better

I haven't had my surgery yet but I was told never regular laxatives that we
could take stool softeners only.

Hi, I am 6 years out and have had the same problem my entire life and it
got worse after surgery. So, things you need to make sure you are doing is
getting in enough water. That is the biggest issue I find is if I dont
drink enough water I get really bad. The secound is over the last several
months I started taking a new Vitamin which is a liquid. I think that it
has helped the most! Its the best stuff ever. Are you taking a good
vitamin? Let me know if you want me to send you information on mine. Good
Luck

My surgeon suggested I use Lax-a-day. It works perfectly and is very mild.
It is tasteless, so you can put some in your water with crystal light. I
do recommend however, that you speak with your surgeon to see what they
recommend.

I have used miralax in my tea in the mornings and just purchased a new
tasteless powder called Ducolax Balance (http://www.dulcolaxusa.com)there
is a coupon on the website
it really works great.

I just discovered a great laxative that is mild and works within 1-5 hrs.
No cramping and very gentle. My doctor told me to use it before an
endoscopy. It is called Magnesium Citrite. (sp) It comes in a little
bottle that looks like a coke bottle in with the exlax. bottom shelf. Lemon
flavor or fruit I think. Drink the whole bottle. but of course you should
check with your doctor but I am sure it is okay. You are blocked due to
lack of food, anesthesia, gas they used to blow your abdomen up at surgery.
And yes, you will stink for a long time, if you don't. Be sure to chill
the bottle before you drink it, it makes it go down better with the lemon
flavor. I have recommended it to two people and they were very pleased
with the quick gentle effect it has. I liked it because it worked fast and
didn't linger much into the next day. After that you can follow through
with a fleet enemia, very easy to use as well. (right on the toilet) just
to cleanse out the rectum to be sure it is all out. Sometimes you can get
that "full" feeling down there, which makes constipation feel
worse. So POOP 101 is dimissed.

I have had the same problem. My Dr. told me to use Benefiber powder. I
buy the sugar free flavored packets and can use up to 3 a day. Once I
started going I reduced it down to one to two a day.....but it keeps me
going. This is much better than a laxative. Laxatives give me
diahhrea...I don't tolerate them well.

I wouldn't use a laxative, maybe use a stool softener? But ask your Dr.
first before taking any type of medications.

Miralax works good.. It can be mixed with any liquid, it doesn't have any
taste. You might not get results for the first couple of days, but it is
gentle and works great.

My doctors advised me against taking laxatives/stool softeners on a regular
basis. I had to resort to some (walgreens brand) suppositories at one
point, and that was NOT fun. Now, at the doctor's advisement, I use fiber
powder each day. The type I use is generic brand (from Target or WalMart)
Benefiber. It dissolves clear and tasteless in liquids, and can also be
used in soft foods. I've mixed it in protein drinks, milk, and even water.
I mixed some in cottage cheese and soup, too. As long as I use it every
day, I have no more trouble!
