No. That is the PURPOSE of the Gastric Bypass. Unfortunately, a SIDE
EFFECT is that you do not get the full NUTRITION of everything you eat
either. This means that you do not get all the vitamins and minerals that
you would have gotten prior to the bypass. This is true also for the
Duodenal Switch. It is not true for the Lap-Band and the Vertical Sleeve
Gastrectomy. THOSE procedures are strictly restrictive in nature. You do
not consume as many calories as you did before, but everything that you DO
consume is used by your body. It is not flushed out with your waste as it
is in the RnY and the DS.

I have asked this question to both my surgeon and to Dr. Garth Davis (of
Big Medicine TV show) at an OH meeting back in June. They both said you
still absorb about 85-90 percent of the calories you eat.
It's nutrients that you don't absorb nearly as well, not calories.
