Question:
any Lap-Banders had any trouble getting approval having an under active thyroid?
I am trying to get approved,but I just found out through my insurance company's website that I have Hypothyroidism.I don't know what to do!! plaease help!thanks — MARIA P. (posted on August 11, 2009)

I agree that you should not worry about it, but should discuss it with your
surgeon. I had hypothyroidism, diagnosed approximately 1.5 years before I
started the surgery process. It was not a problem at all for me to get
approved. The doctors will probably want to make sure your hypothyroidism
is under control before surgery, but that won't prevent your surgery. Talk
to your primary care physician about medications to get your thyroid under
control and talk to your surgeon about it, but don't freak out. Things
will be fine. (Also, once they get your thyroid under control, you will
have more energy, which will be incredibly helpful for post-surgery
recovery.) Good luck!
