Question:
Stuck
I am 14 months out from RNY. I have had several plateaus along the way that lasted up to two months. I have been bouncing between 130-135 at 5'2" for 3 months. I wear a size 4-6 depending on the brand. Could this be it for me? I want to lose 20 more if possible. I was told the window of weightloss was around 18 months. Who found this to be so? Advise? Do you think It could be it for me? Encouragement and tips please! Lesleigh in Ga. — lesleigh07 (posted on February 20, 2009)

I bet you look great!!! Just take it one day at a time. If you lose more
great, if not oh well, you probably look a million times better than you
used to. I lost all my weight in the first 6 months. I am 5 1/2 years
post op RNY.

You are fine just as you are. Think about where you were. This is my goal
weight and I am 5'2 like you. At a size 4 you are skinny. Can't wait to get
there. I am seven months out and wearing a size 10. Still a little more to
go.
You need to be happy with yourself at your current weight. If you lose more
fine, if not wow you have made a huge difference in your life.

i When month 16 rolled around I stopped loosing and i held that weight
for the next six months but the inches continued to come off.In the months
16 to 24 i came down 3 more clothes sizes and no more lbs came off.Focus on
today and keep doing your program the more time passes you will find that
you must work at keeping the weight off by following your program or sad to
say u will start a regain.

My son lost about 177 lbs - is down to 173. The doctors have told him he
really is at goal - the extra weight is from the excess skin on him from
the weight loss. I don't know how much you lost, but that could be why you
aren't losing anymore - you could be right where you are suppose to be
other than that dreaded excess skin. :)

Hi. I too and 5'3" and wish to get to 130 lbs also. I would not
consider losing anymore weight. U R a size 4-6 and that is wonderful! To
skinny and U will not look or be healthy. U could end up going the total
opposite way and look anorexic, which I am sure U do not want. Wink. U have
a lot to be proud of. Congratulations.

Hi Lesleigh, I had a platuea for 6 weeks. I weighed 181 and thought that
I'd never lose another pound and this month alone I've lost 8 lbs, this
morning I weighed 173 so don't give up. I want to lose another 23 lbs
before I have plastics. You've done awesome!! I started exercising more
and it helped alot.

Lesleigh, congrats on your accomplishments thusfar. My surgeon (who does
both RNY and lapband procedures) told me before my surgery that while the
two processes worked differently, at the end of three years the results
would be the same. Unlike the years before when we bounced from diet to
diet, we've chosen to make a commitment to a lifestyle change with this
surgery. I'm certain if you just continue to do what you have obviously
been so successfully doing, you will continue to see progress, although you
should be focusing on muscle tone, energy level, and feeling good rather
than a number on a scale at this point! You are already a success story!!
Good luck and God bless. Julie Preston, RN

Lesleigh, I too am 14 months out. I am 5'4" and my goal is 135. I
have been bouncing between 143 and 147 since 9 months out. I am also
wearing a size 4 or 6 depending on the brand. Anything that fits around
the waist is tight though. I do well with jeans that lay on my hips. I
have always been that way even when i was younger and thin. I ma hoping
that i can still get down to that 135. I am also hoping that it is due to
the winter months and i cannot ride my bike for excersise like i had been
until it got dark earlier. Maybe you can increase your excersise.

Don't forget - you probably have 15 pounds of skin that won't come off
unless you have plastic surgery.

I think yes, your body is at it's goal...If you are not where you want to
be, you can continue to lose if you tighten up on diet and exercise. This
is the point where everything changes...and losing weight will no longer be
effortlessly. It's a great time to start a food journal and start weighing
and measuring food servings. This way, you do not begin to eat more than
you do now and sacrifice gaining a little back, which is quite
common...There is a 10% gain back that happens to MOST RNYers. If you are
happy where you are...don't worry..sit back and enjoy a wonderful
accomplishment! But do keep an eye on the scale and if you begin to see
weight fluxes, you know it's time to cut a few calories here and there or
even add a few if you are not eating enough. And step up exercise! (Very
important at this point as well)...The best way to find out what you do eat
is doing a journal for a week or two( at the very least) so you can see how
well or bad you do during the week! What I have learned over the years is
that even if you do get to a certain low weight, You might not be able to
maintain it easily and that can be quite frustrating. I got to 158 lbs and
I was just so thrilled to be under 160...but I just could not hold it! LOL
I got up to 165lbs stayed there...That's just where my body settled and
wants to be...Even when I work hard to lose a little, I get down to 162 and
in a few days I am right back to 165. I have no trouble keeping that weight
and so I accepted it. But you don't have to if you stay on it and work
harder. For me, it was just exhausting...I weighed the same 165 for the
last 4 years give or take 3-4 lbs either way and one big 10 lb gain which
was totally my bad! I worked hard to lose that before it stayed forever! It
was hard (had to actually diet/cut calories, add work out!), but not
impossible! Anyway. I hope that makes sense...You are gorgeous!
