Question:
For ladies only, trouble finding a bra that fits!!!!!!!!!

After losing 90 pounds, I am having a terrible time finding a bra, cup size that fits me. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do? I was thinking maybe a push-up bra would help? Any suggestions will be helpful. Thank You, jenny    — jennyberry (posted on January 4, 2009)

I just bought "whatever" while losing the bulk of my weight. If it kept em' off the floor, it was good enough for me. Now that I am pretty steady (weight loss wise, lost over 140lbs and am now down to a 34C from a 42D). When I was ready to "buy bras" I went to Victoria Secret, my favorite place prior to gaining weight and then no longer able to shop there. I went in for a formal fitting and tried on like 20 types of bras until I found one I liked. Invest the time. Talk to the sales lady, have her fit you, talk to her about your needs, wants, desires in a bra and have them do their job and weight (hee!hee!), wait on you hand and foot. I spent 2 hours in Victoria Secret - learning the secret to bras again after all of this time and weight (wait) and am happy with my bras, happy with the way they fit and position the girls when in them. Being fitted and finding a quality bra make take time, but it's worth the effort - keep on keeping on until you find THAT bra. Again, start with being professionally fitted, don't guess. Enjoy shopping. :-)

I am in Houston. Do you have any place that does custom fit bras. I am a breast cancer survivor so mine are now store bought boobs, since had mastectomy... but I too have to get a custom fit bra.. they have then in the stores, but you walk, remove your top (in dressing room of course) and they say you need this size. It is great. Otherwise, just try try try until you find what works for you. Avenue has a good selection as does JC Penney... not sure of your state and what choices you have. MonHay Houston TX

I am still losing....at 95 pounds down and holding. Tried a push up, bent over one day and the girls fell right out of the bra...up side down...awfully glad I was at home when it happened! Good luck to you.

I have always had to buy my bras from Lane Bryant. They seem to fit the best. I get the Cacique. They have underwire and great support, in fact just got some new ones yesterday. I have gone from a 38DDD down to a 36D. I can't buy clothes there anymore, but I can still get the bras!

The first poster had the right idea, go to Victoria's Secret, if there's one in your area. For me, that's the last place in the world I'd go [I'm 65]. I went to Nordstrom's and got the same sort of treatment that the other poster received, only it took 30-45 minutes. Maybe other department stores offer the same service. Wacoal was a great brand for me. Marti in San Jose

Push up bras don't work for me because of all the lose skin. I went from a 38D to a 32B. I can't find a 32 anywhere. Well, I take that back, the 32's I find are made for teens who can do the push up, but have plenty of meat to push up. I am pretty much all skin and fall right out of it. I still haven't found the right bra for me, and this is the most frustrating part of the weight loss. Of course, I will take my tinny 32 B's any day over the 97 lbs I lost.

I also go to Lane Bryant for my bra's. They measured for the best fit and offer suggestions on what type of bra is best. Good luck.

I gave up on expensive bras, I go to wal-mart and get the almost B cup size, they have alot of brands with that feature. I was sliding out of the regular B. I used to think it was impossible to find a 40B now it is impossible to find a 34A-B. Good luck!

Go to a nice dept store like Macy's and they will fit for you and if you have an idea like a lift up they will try to find one that fits you. They will measure you and find the right bra for you. While I was doing this I met another lady doing the same thing after losing a lot of weight. good luck

Hi This is in response to you and debi woods...who asked if everyone loses their boobs. i have lost inches around, and my breasts have become very soft and squishy, but i was a 44dd and now I am in a 38dd. Now I know that the cups in a 44 are larger than a cup in a 38, but still a dd. I have not been refitted, and will probably go to penny;s when I need to. But I don't think everyone will lose their breasts. Before I got fat I was a 36d, so i figure I will go down to a d in time. i got fat and gained everywhere. I wish they were firm like before, but such is life. I will take thin and squishy over big and fat any day! Good Luck Ladies! Hugs, kim

I've spent the $48 each on bras at Victoria's Secret. I won't do it again. It's very valuable to go there and get measured, but then I go to TARGET and buy Gilligan & OMally bras for less than $15 each. Recent consumer reports rank Gilligan & OMally higher than Victoria's Secret. I'm in love with everything they make. They have stylish, comfortable, and functional pieces. I like the fit much better even on the lace boy shorts. I had some from Victoria's Secret and like the comfort and look of the Gilligan & OMally better. My hubby likes them better, too! :) The "favorite fit" bra is better than the "body by Victoria" in my opinion. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/09/best-bras-emconsumer-repo_n_95829.html

If you don't want to spend loads of money on expensive bras, you could always buy the bras that have the inserts inside the cups for the saline pads. I had reductive mamoplasty when I was 13 and have never had the desire to have an extra large chest, even though my surgeon failed to realize that I was still growing at the time. Sigh! I went from a 44DD to a 32B after surgery...Now as an adult I'm back to a 40D. Best of luck to you in your search for the right bra. :-)

Jenny i had the same problem and after try so many different bras that did not fit nor feel good I was in Walmart one day and found a sports bra probably most any of them will do and took it home and fell in love. Sometimes if i am wearing dress blouses the straps will show at the shoulders but really not a problem. I love them and maybe cost 10 bucks.

Well after losing 180 pounds, me and the "sock puppets" did the formal fitting thing and got a good underwire that makes us look "normal". I just make sure their "eyes" are pointing in the same direction!! LOL

Jenny, Victoria's secret and Lane Bryant are two very good choices. Also as mentioned in a previous post; Kathryn's. It is for cross dressers but ladies the people are professionals for show girls and the like and the underwear always fits them perfectly. If anyone tries it, let me know. It works for me; I've gone from 52E to 44D. Try finding those sizes in Walmart or Kmart that really fit you(ha,ha)! And Debi, you don't lose your breasts; you just reduce the size; like me. I still have plenty of breasts being a 44D. And I'm still losing. 10 years plus post op. I'm 54; hi to I'm 65. I'm considering a business for those of us who go from lovingly large to pleasing plump to nicely normal. Hang in there girls, we can do this! vinnigirl, retired RN If you wish to talk to me further about anything no matter how old you are go to [email protected] and leave me a message.

For me after losing 170 lbs and lots of breast tissue I have found the ONLY bra that fits me well are the Body By Victoria, Victoria's Secret bra. They lift what breast I have and make me look pretty darn good if I do say so myself. While they are kind of expensive I wear nothing else. I have attempted Maidenform, Bali, and Platex. Other than the Victoria's Secret bra I find nothing else will do.

If you do not live near a Victoria Secret's, you can try Macy's or JC Penney. Most any upscale store that sells bras will fit you. Good Luck.

I went to Walmart also and bought a sports bra, I had never wore one prior but I now swear by them. I actually look like I have breasts again.

I am in the same boat with Teresa V. I went from a 40DD to a 32A or B. I had to get a teenagers bra too. My problem is I have no volume. Just skin and bones. I tried a 34A, but the bra just puffed out and it wasn't smooth. But I also tried a 32B and it was a bit snug and whenever I moved the girls came out from the bottom. Where can I go to get fitted so I know what size and cup I wear? I don't mind spend a few dollars on these small bras and then have to throw them away, but it gets old afterwhile. Help!!!!!! I lost a total of 110 pounds to date. I love my itty bitties, but I need to put them in something that fits me...
