How long before/after eating are we supposed to wait to drink liquids?

Depends on who you talk to. Every surgeon is a little bit different
apparently. The longer you can go after eating without drinking, the
longer you will stay satisfied. I usually try to do 30 mins before and at
least 1 hour after a meal without liquids.
Best of luck,

It's generally 30/30...But as you know some surgerons have their own
imput/opinions/rules/suggestions....yada yada yada
Waiting an hour is probably longer than you really need to wait, but it
wouldn't hurt! I sometimes try to wait as long as I can...I barely make it
to 30 minutes most of the time...but sometimes I forget to drink at all
after meals and it will be hours...It doesn't hurt, but then I have a
harder time catching up with drinking and keeping my urine color clear!
That's one of my daily personal goals...Oh the silly things that make me
happy! Clear urine! LOL

I would ask your own surgeon because I was hearing 30 minutes before and 30
minutes after, but then I went to my last follow-up earlier this month and
per my own surgeon, it's 30 minutes before and ONE HOUR after. I have a
hard time sticking with that, but I do my best!

My info says no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. My question is
when do you start this, at phase 2 or 3 in the program?

Gina, It is 30 minutes after you eat. I was just to my Surgeon for a
visit. He said make sure not to drink for at least 30 after you eat. 30
min before and 30 min after.

Gina.... the dietician in my surgeon's office told me no drinking 15
minutes before and 45 minutes after, as drinking too soon can wash the food
down before your pouch gets a chance to extract all the nutrients it can.

my doctor (whom I saw today) stated that you drink thirty minutes before
and thirty minutes after ...nothing during the meal ...she says drinking
during the meal flushes the food out of your system faster and you are
hungrier sooner than your suppose to be . She states that drinking during
the meal defeats the purpose of the surgery because if your hungrier sooner
then you will eat more , thus intaking more calories and gaining the weight
back.

Each surgeon has his own recommendations. Mine says 30 minutes prior and
60 minutes after. When you drink liquid after eating, it washes the food
through the stomach faster, so you get hungry sooner. So the longer you
wait, the better. The problem is, it can be difficult to get all your
water in because you have to sip slowly all day, so much more than an hour
and it cuts way down on the time you need to get the water in. Good luck!

Hello. According to my dad's surgeon and the surgeon I'm hoping to have
surgery with, stop drinking 30 minutes before a meal, and wait one hour
after. Hope this helps and good luck. Happy new year!
