Question:
Slow weight lost and now craving sweets 7 months after my surgery?

I had my surgery in May of 2008. I have only loss 87 pounds. One day at work I tasted a small piece of candy and I did not have any problems digesting it. Now I am craving sweets. I have tried eating 1/4 cup of trail mix with nuts and raisins to cut the craving for chocolate with nuts. I am trying so hard to get back on the right track because my weight loss has slowed down. I am worried and afraid that I might have ended my weight loss. I am beginning to feel like a loser. I want to continue losing weight. I have not gain any weight back but I have not loss any weight within the last 2 weeks. Please help.    — cclayton (posted on December 23, 2008)

I just went through a stall that lasted for a month! Don't worry too much about the weight loss, but get yourself a chocolate protein powder. You can kill two birds with one stone and enjoy it too.

Sugar is as much an addiction as alcohol.... You must cut sugar out completely. This includes sweets and carbs like potatoes, rice, breads.... You may go through withdrawal, but eventually you'll get past that. Go back to basics - mostly proteins like tuna, chicken, eggs, beans, and some beef. Low-fat cheeses, vegetables, and some fresh fruit like an apple. Drink only Crystal light, diet tea, decaf diet coffee, water. Take vitamins, Calcium, B-Complex. Eating sugars spikes your blood sugar and releases insulin in to the blood. You then crash, which triggers more hunger... It's a never ending cycle. Throw all sugars and carbs out of your house and get back to basics....

I agree with everyone else. Sugar is not an evil poison thing however, but for people like us it is. We are carb addicts. The last thing my surgeon told me when I saw him after my 2 week check up is that I have to avoid sugar like an alchoholic avoids booze. They don't use booze to celebrate a holiday or occasion because they know what it does to them. You are not a loser, except when it comes to weight. That's just some bad feedback you are giving yourself. We are all in this together and need to support each other. You can do this hon. Just omit from your brain the slip up you had and think how much fun next summer will be! God's blessings on you.

Hi ! Don't worry about thte loss. I too am a loser. I lose 3 pounds then stay there for a week or two. then lose another pound or two. Slow can be good if you are exercising to tone up skin.I had my surgery in June and have lost a total of 79 lbs. But I feel great!!Don't be temped into eating choclate. Don't even try it. It will get you sick if you eat too much. If you must have it, try sugar free. Gertrude hawk and godiva both have sugar free candy. I bought a sug free bar of godiva back in october and still have 1 of 4 squares left. I take a teeny tiny bite maybe once every 2 weeks. It cures what ails me. Fight the urge and see if it goes away. If it does, it may be just head trips. Not real cravings. Good luck to you! Merry Christmas and hugs, kim
