Hi....I had a lapband procedure done on February 25, 08 and I was diagnosed with leaky heart valves in 1996 and I had a mild stroke in 2006. I was told by my doctor that it would be to my benefit to have the surgery to be healthy. Good luck

I didn't have a leaky valve, but 3 holes in the upper chamber of my heart. The fixed them with 2 patches (not open heart surgery) and 3 mths later I had my RNY. Since then I have lost 135 lbs and my cardiologist is very pleased!! Good luck!!

This is obviously a question that only your cardiologist and/or heart surgeon can only answer. I suspect that the answer will be a "yes". This is most likely after undergoing a healing period and possibly cardiac rehab. I had a triple bypass open heart surgery 2 1/2 years ago and was approved for lapbad just a month ago. As my cardiologist told me, "you are much healthier than you have been in years due to the surgery." He has had many patients undergo surgery after heart surgery. So, you will most likely need to heal for months and perhaps a year. Good Luck! Tom

Gerry, they may put off your rny but that doesn't disqualify you. After you have all the test and get an okay from the cardiologist then you can have your rny.

I had a smilar problem. When I went for my heart clearance I failed the stress test. I was scheduled for heart cath the next week. It did show some blockage and the doc wanted to put a stint in. He said if I had one kind of stint it would not delay the surgery, but if he put another kind in, it would delay it for a year. He agreed to let me go ahead and have the surgery and then see him six weeks afterward. My surgeon also made me get a second opinion. That doctor also cleared me for the surgery. My heart doctor decided to wait for 6 more months before he does anything. I am scheduled for a nuclear stress test in December 2008. Hope this helps.
