Question:
How much weigh loss after surgery is common?
Hi I'm 3 weeks post-op and from the day of surgery I have only lost 10 pounds. This doesn't seem like very much to me?? I read about all these people losing 25-30 pounds? Am I doing something wrong?? — jradil (posted on April 2, 2008)

I lost a total of 17 pounds since surgery. I was on Liquids 2wks before
and 2wks after. But I lost a total of 23lbs all together. I am also 3wks
out as of yesterday. I had the RNY.

Everybody is different. Ask how many of the people who lose alot if they
were sick and that played a factor in how quickly they lost. I am 2
months post op and at 32lb lost.
Age, meds and for me, what specifically WHAT I was eating, make a
different. I hit a plateau for about 2 weeks and frustrated, I talked with
my dr. and he said I was just fine, but apparantly for me especially,
exercise would help jump start the weight loss. He was right. In the last
week, I have lost about 4 lbs. I hate to exercise! ARGH!!!
Stay away from carbs... that's the killer for me...Protein drinks tend to
have carbs so watch for the "hidden" stuff.
Read your labels.
Good luck

Different surgeries have different results. Different PEOPLE respond to
each surgery DIFFERENTLY. Depends on many factors. I won't TELL you what
I have lost so far. Don't want you comparing. If you are not HAPPY with
your results, you should try to see if there is something that you can do
DIFFERENT that may HELP. Talk to a nutritionist.

Hello, I had my surgery on 3/7/08 and I have lost 23 lbs. I am walking 30
minutes a day on the treadmill. Good Luck.

Hi Julie, I don't think there is any "common" thing about wls for
everyone. We are all different. I lost 2-3 pounds every week for a year,
and my friend lost a few pounds here and a few pounds there, stopped for
long periods of time, but now she is smaller than me (we are both 4 years
out). It takes time and patience, but be sure you are doing ALL you can do
lose the weight. The surgery is absolutely USELESS without diet, exercise
and water. So be sure you are doing your part to help your body, if you
are, then your body will react when it is ready, you just be faithful to
the task. Take care. Patricia P.. By the way, congrats on 10 pounds
gone!
