Question:
For an older woman @62-any age appropriate info?

Are you considering surgery? Are you concerned about your age? I am sure that if you consult with a good surgeon who SPECIALIZES in weight loss surgery he will inform you of the risks. It may balance out with the benifits. I had surgery at 55 and a revision 7 weeks ago at 59. No problems at all so far and I feel great.

I had mine at age 59. I had an extra visit with the cardio doctor due to my age. My surgeon has a "cut off" where he doesn't like to do surgeries past 60. For those patients who come to him, he does the pre and post op checkups, but the surgery is done at another hospital, more suited to older patients, in the sugeon's estimation. Just his policy, don't know about other surgeons. I've met people in their late 60's who had surgery done some 5 years ago. Their only regret was waiting so long for surgery.

I had lap. RNY. in April, 8 months before my 70th birthday at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida. My only regret is that I was not able to do it before. Only recently did Medicare cover that surgery. Good Luck.

I just had RNY surgery on January 29, 4 weeks ago, and I was 61 in December and had no problems with the surgery. My doctor said he does not like to do surgery for those over 65 but that depends on medical issues. I only stayed in the hospital a total of 3 days and have been walking ever day since I got home. Just stick to what the doctor tells you to do. I did have several pre-test but I think everyone has the same. Physc, Heart, Lungs, I needed to loose about 110 lbs and down 35 lbs now. Like so many, wish I had done this sooner. Good luck.

I am 62 year old male and had my surgery (RNY) on my 62nd birthday. It was harder for me than the younger ones that had surgery the same day. When they went home after two days, I was still on oxygen and wound up three more days before my doctor discharged me. I had to stay on liquids a week longer and I was on soft food two weeks longer, but I would not trade this experence for anything. I wished I had done it years before as I feel better then ever and enjoy working out at the Gym every day for 1-1/2 hours 7 days a week. After three months I am off 7 diebetic drugs and no longer take colestrol or blood thinkers, or high blood pressure medication. I could almost pay for the surger with my first years savings on drugs. Go for it. I waited because my insurance would not pay, but I would pay twice the price if I had to do it over for the sucess that I have had. It will be tought at first, because you are not in your 20's or 30's but you will be adding years to your life.

Hi Kim, I am 60 (61 in April). I had VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) on Oct. 25, 2007. The first few days after surgery were rough, but since then my sleeve has been a dream come true. You are not to old to take control of your life and your health. I wish you the best. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Good luck! Pat
