Question:
Has anyone used Atkins Advantage or other canned protein drinks? The powders I have
tried taste like either sheet rock spackle or cake batter! I can't afford anything really expensive. — lesleigh07 (posted on December 2, 2007)

OH MY!! Sheet rock spackle hits it right on the head!!! I have found
Natures Best - Zero Carb Isopure Protein Drink to be very good. If you go
to naturesbest.com you can email them a request for a free sample or call
them at 1-800-345-best
I like the Alpine Punch the best. I usually buy it from ebay but it can be
bought at GNC store (very expensive there). When I don't have Isopure I
use Carnation Instant Bkfst--no sugar or Slim Fast-low carb.
Good luck....

Isopure Creamy Vanilla wasn't very good. Then I heard someone say add some
cinnamon. That helped. The Isopure Dutch Chocolate is pretty good. Of
course, these are my opinions of what I've tried.

OMG!!!! I LOVED the discription!!!! I've never tasted sheet rock spackle,
but have worked with it many times....... I can TASTE IT in my
mind!!!!!!!!! The smell alone........
Anyways, I have found a product called "Chike" it is a powder
that is packaged in a plastic bottle, you add water and shake! It is
alittle costly (you pay for the conveince, I think), but it TASTES GOOD!
(GREAT- I reserve for anything that IS NOT protein). I buy it through the
Barix Clinic web-site store. (Cheaper there) AND if you think of the cost
of even a "Happy Meal" versus the price of the protein
supplement, the nutritional value and importance, Well? Makes some sense,
doesn't it????? Good Luck and NEVER loose your sense of humor! or is it
"honesty"???? lol.............

I really like Slim-Fast Low Carb. It has 20g protein, 2 net carbs & 1g
sugar. I like chocokate, I mix it with the chocolate whey protein powder
(22g protein). And if you add a packet of chocolate carnation instant
breakfast (4g protein) it is sooo good. Just make sure you blend it really
well.

Have you tried Any Whey tasteless protein powder? It's not 100% tasteless,
but it's about 90-95% tasteless. Once added to crystalight, or ice tea's,
I barely notice it's there. It's about in the midrange as far as cost. It
can be found at GNC. I can only afford to buy the smaller container now,
but when I run out of that stuff, I make myself use the "sheet rock
spackle." LOL! I noticed that if I use water instead of milk with
the body fortress, it's more tolerable. Good luck and God bless!

Haven't used Adkins, but I did finally find a protein I can tolerate. It
is called Nectar (Fuzzy Navel). It mixes with water, has 23g protein, and
tastes like orange juice. It is OK, honest. I bought it on line SI03.com
(that's s as in sam, I as in Indian, zero, three). It costs 44.95 and I
had it two days later. If you can find a place that sells it you won't
have to pay the shipping so it should be around $36. Oh, it has 36
servings in the container and each serving is only 90 calories. I am
sipping on one now as we speak. Good luck. Pat

I have shopped around a bit, even though I have not had my surgery yet. I
wanted to see what I might like. I found this awesome website that I am
going to post the link to. You get the shakes in flavors: chocolate,
vanilla, coffee, peanut butter, mixed berry, and pina colada. You can
order a mixed variety batch of shakes 30 for $5.00 and that includes the
shipping. They want you to try them. My husband likes them so well that
we ordered them, had his parents order some, and somehow or other my mom
was able to order two sets. Anywho, I promise they are tasty, mix VERY
well, and have 17 grams of protein in each scoop. Use it with fat free
milk and you add 8 more grams (8 ozs of milk) of protein. If you add a 1/3
cup of powdered non fat milk to the mixture you end up adding an additional
8 ozs of protein giving you a whopping 33 ozs of protein packed in 8 ozs of
fluid. Check it out, I promise you'll like it and what do you have to lose
at $5?

What have you tried and how did you make it? Sounds like soy, not whey.
Or maybe an MRP, not a protein? Individual are going to be really
expensive. Powders made with water are cheap, chea, cheap.
* * * * *
Any of these are what I use:
1.) Champion ProScore 100 choco + 8 oz water + ice, blended (hand blender
or Magic Bullet).
2.) Champion Pure Whey Stack choco + 6-8 oz water, shaken.
3.) IDS vanilla-cinnamon + "glop" of DaVinci sugar free caramel
sauce + 8 oz water + ice, blended.
4.) the PWS chco + the van-cin (50/50) in about 10 oz hot water, stirred or
hand blender.
Lately I've been adding a shake of cinnamon to my hot ones since cinnamon
fights belly fat.
I always put 1 scoop of UpCal D powder in (500mg calcium citrate, 250 IU of
vit D3).

Hi Lesleigh - haven't talked in awhile - hope you're behaving! ;-) I like
Unjury - the chocolate is delicious (hate the strawberry) and they have a
delicious chicken soup that can be warmed. Each serving has about 20 Grams
of protein. You can get them at some pharmacies, but I've found it's easier
and cheaper to get them at www.unjury.com. They also give you recipies for
using the products, and have support help.

walmart -- EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control -- package of 4 for $5 -- vanilla,
chocolate, strawberry and if you are lucky coffee carmel -- 17 g protein, 0
sugars, 110 calories -- over in the nutrition aisle -- be careful and read
packages -- some slim fast and atkins have alot of sugars in them -- good

My nutritionist suggested that I buy a can of DRY MILK...and I take 1/4 cup
of Dry Milk and mix it with a 1/2 cup of skim milk... it has 18.9 rams of
Protein. and it isnt so bad... plus there is less than a cup to drink so 2
gulps and you are done!. It cost me less then 5$ for the can of milk and
it is the size of about 2 about 2 cans of baby formula.... good luck..

I like the Body Fortress Whey powder. It's $12.99 at Walmart and it makes
LOTS of shakes so it's a good value. The Choc. or Vanilla is good with
milk and a spoonful of peanut butter. I dont' taste that protein-y taste
at all. I also like the Vanilla with Sunny D and a splash of milk. Tastes
like a cream sicle!

Lots of good choices here. My 3 favorites:
1. Isopure Strawberries & Cream has 50g Protein per serving. I make it
with 8oz of liquid, usually water but have made it with NF milk as well. IT
tastes GREAT!! SERIOUSLY! You can get this one at GNC but it is expensive
there unless you have a GNC Gold Card. Otherwise check out the prices
online and compare.
2. Syntrax Nectar - Best Flavors: Kiwi Strawberry, and Fuzzy Navel!!! I
LOVE them. They have 26g of protein and taste like juice. They are
FANTASTIC!! Usually about $30-36. BariatricEating.com has a good sample
pack for purchase that comes with several of them + others to try and a
shaker bottle. I ordered it without the book. I read Susan Maria's book
from the library and all she does is describe decadent food we can't eat or
shouldn't, a few we can, and recipes that are all over the internet so
sklip the book trust it will bore you out of your gourd!
3. New Whey Protein Bullets 42g Protein- I like orange and mix it with
Crystal Light Sunrise, water and ice for Breakfast! LOVE it (but I have to
drink it watered down, otherwise it tastes like weird liquid jello).

I have indeed tried the Atkins Shakes, but I favor the EAS chocolate
delight shakes at Walmart. They come in a 4-pack and run less than $1.00
per container for 17 grams of protein. They seriously do tastes wonderful.
My grandson drinks them when he comes to my house. (Thinks it is chocolate
milk!!)

I haven't found any "protein drinks" that I've been able to
tolerate. I have two suggestions for you.... the first, check out
carnation instant breakfast, no sugar added. That's the best I've been
able to do. My second suggestion, there are a couple post-weight loss
oriented websites where you can buy a sampler pack of 7 or 8 different
drinks for a low cost. This way you can try 1 serving and if you don't
like it, you haven't wasted your money on a 2lb can of powder you'll never
use.
Best wishes.
