WILLPOWER!! just try to remove yourself from the main area where people are
eating and focus on enjoying your time with family instead of the food.
also focus on how bad you want the surgery and how much easier the surgery
will be on you and your surgeon if you are able to loose the weight before.
it is a sacrifice, but you need to be ready to let things go in order to be
successful at loosing the weight and keeping it off. Good Luck, I know it
ain't easy, BUT YOU CAN DO IT!!! ... Holly

I am going for a fill this week and won't be able to partake in the
Thanksgiving foods...but I think of it this way...You can eat Thanksgiving
food anytime of the year, not just November..Do what you need to do now and
think of the end results!!
God Bless!!

Ok, I might get reemed for this but if I was in your shoes I would probably
make a small plate. Do the optifast for breakfast and lunch/dinner,
depending on when you all typically eat your meal. Thanksgiving is a big
deal in my family. I am 8 weeks out so I will be able to eat some things. I
will do a few bites of mashed potatoes, mac & cheese or whatever side
dishes but mostly turkey. I found a recipe on here for pumpkin pie that WLS
patients can have. If you want dessert, make something that a WLS patient
can have. Just make one small plate and then a small peice of the SF
dessert of your choice if you really need to have it then be done. That may
be horrible advice, but a little will go a lot further then none. I read a
blog from a lady that had WLS right before Thanksgiving so she was not able
to participate at all and spent it in the bathroom in tears. If you think
you can refrain, do so, but otehrwise that's my suggestion. :) Good luck!!

august. now i am 75# lighter feel great and i am glad i stuck to the rules.
even after surgery it was not easy. went thru a period of depression too.
just now getting over it and am glad i did this thing. thanksgiving will
still be tough for me. i will think of you. (by the way, i did have a
deviled egg at the reunion.) good luck. madone-marsha

My husband and I got married Thanksgiving Day 17 years ago so I will have 2
reasons to celebrate. Hugs & kisses are going to be my way of
celebrating with my loved ones. Oh, and I will raise my glass of Isopure
or water & be proud. So cheers to you this holiday. Good luck on your
journey, too.

Wow some people are really great here with advice. I just had BG RNY in
September and I miss my food right now. Glad the weight is coming off but I
really miss some stuff. It's just head hunger but if I could I would make a
plate. Doesn't mean I should, but if I was pre-surgery I would make the
plate. Boy I hope that doen't start a flame, just being honest. Good Luck!

I just started my fast Monday and surgery is 11/26. I too will be going
through fast during Thanksgiving. Also a family dinner and a wedding
shower and baby shower but the end results are what are going to keep me
going. A friend said to me, there is aways time for turkey and that is
true. I wouldn't cheat on your fast though because my surgeon will close
you right back up if he finds you have been eating and you don't want to
take any chances of having problems.
Good luck.
