Do your best to make sure you are getting enough water and walking.
Walking keeps things moving in your bowels. At least that is what the
nurses told me while I was in the hospital. Take care of yourself and call
your doctor just to be sure.

It could take a week or two depending on what you are eating now. I found
that taking senekot helped as well as water and walking. It could be too
early to be concerned about a BM since you are probably still on liquids.
I know it took about 2 weeks for me and I was pretty miserable till then.

Everyone is different. Right now you are probably on clear liquids,
therefore, I wouldn't be too concerned. However, before taking any
over-the-counter products, I suggest you speak with your doctor. BEST OF
LUCK !!!!

sudden it turns to the trots for several more weeks and now the last 2
weeks it's evened out to more normal. I'm 10 weeks out today.

It took me awhile too...takes awhile for your system to "wake up"
plus you're probably on all liquids. I used Miralax a lot throughout the
first year (doc recommended) and you don't need a Rx now. It's a powder
you mix in drinks and I promise you can't taste it! Ask your doc first but
it's very gentle and worked for me. Good luck w/ your journey! ~Sarah in

Everyone is different....eat your protein, drink your water and get
moving...that will push things through sooner. I had diaherrra in the
hospital and mostly through my liquid 2 weeks after surgery. I
then....didn't have a BM for 3-4 days after starting soft foods. I
increased my protein/water/activity and all seemed fine. NOW...being on
solid food and increased iron, I take Benefiber, just to make sure I am a
regular girl. LOL. Good luck.

This is a Question you Should be Asking your surgeon!!
It depends on which Surgery you received. My surgeon will not release his
RNY patients from the hospital till they are at least passing gas and
urinating. As in my case I wasn't passing anything and they had to re-open
me fixing my strangulated intestines. The day after being fixed one doctor
admitted that they thought I was going to die! Call your Surgeon.

You had surgery on the 30th...you most likely went through a pre-op liquid
diet or did a bowel prep/clean-out. You probably aren't eating very
substantial foods, maybe even mostly liquid (soup? protein shakes?).
My guess is that you aren't consuming enough food to have a normal/regular
bowel movement.
If you are not experiencing any discomfort or pain from the lack of a bowel
movement, then most likely you just need some extra time and more
substantial food before you start going regularly.
But if you are having pain or discomfort that you attribute to not having a
bowel movement, you may need to think about taking something to help you
go.
Either way, as you have heard over and over on this post, please get in
touch with your doctor or surgeon and share this concern.
If you do need to take something, a laxative or stool softner, your
doctor/surgeon can probably give you some suggestions of what medications
might help and what medications to avoid.
If you aren't already, try walking 20 to 30 minutes everyday and drink,
drink, drink. The walking is important as it helps stimulate the gut and
keeps things moving.
Best wishes.

In the large majority of surgeries (not cosmetic) the doc will not release
the patient until they go potty (like my kids would say). Thats how its was
after my 2 c-sections. So i would imagen its the same here. You should call
your doc and ask. best of luck
