I had 4 abdominal surgeries before my laproscopic RNY and I had one hernia
(still have). I worried because I didn't want open, and they had no
problems doing it lap with 4 surgeries so I would think they would be able
to do open in your situation. Doc did not want to address the hernia until
after the RNY - he said the best time would be when I go for reconstruction
and do at same time-haven't gone yet but hope to soon. Hernia is worse but
no new ones. Good luck!

I had multiple abdominal surgeries. My surgeon removed the scar tissue and
fixed a hernia. He did say I was at risk of infection, but he pumped me
full of antibiotics and I didn't get one.

Most likely you can have an RNY but if it can be done lap or open is the
question. Everyone develops scar tissue differently. A good surgeon may
attempt lap, but you could wake-up having it done open.
