Question:
Anyone notice increase in graying hair after surgery?
At 33, I noticed just one or two gray hairs starting to appear before surgery - but now at 6 months post-op I am really seeing an increase in the graying! Not sure if this is related to the surgery in any way or if it's just the natural progression of graying hair. .. — KDFJones (posted on February 23, 2006)

Since I had my first gray hairs appear at 16 and it progressed every year
since then I don't think it has anything to do with the surgery.
Fortunately there's always hair color! I would be almost completely white
without it and I'm only 47!!!

I predict that by 40,45 the latest you will have classes and if you have
them now you will have bi focals. and its not related to the wls

Pigment in your skin and hair come from melanocytes. The melanocytes
produce melanin wich give the skin and hair its color. As a person ages the
production of melanin slows causing the hair to become gray or white. In
some people it occurs quicker than others. Having the gastric bypass does
not interfear with the life cycles of melanin producing melanocytes that I
know of. I looked this up in my anatomy book I hope it helps.

I think that since so much of your hair falls out, the qualities of it when
it comes back in can change radically, especially since so many changes are
going on in your body. For me, my hair was bone straight before I had
surgery and at about the same point as you - six months out - when it
started thickening up again it became naturally wavy and still is. Now if
I want that trendy straight hair look I have to use a straightener and
never did before! :)
