Question:
When is your official weigh in?
Is it what the surgeon has you weighed before they send your insurance packet in or what your PCP say's you weigh? — Villager (posted on December 22, 2005)

Its your first weight at the surgeons office. Atleast mine was.

Are you talking about an 'official weight' for approval purposes or an
'official weight' for your start weight? If it's the ladder, they should
weigh you right before surgery.

Rebecca I don't agree. I think either is your first weight at the surgeons
office. You should especially get credit for the weight you lost before
surgery.

LOL Jennifer....my initial weight was less than my immediately pre-op
weight. I'd like credit for losing those extra 15lbs I gained between the
consult and surgery. Everyone is different, I say go with the highest
weight all around.

I should have specified the question was actually for insurance approval -
so I'm understanding that your weight for approval purposes is the first
time you weigh in at your first consultation with your surgeon?

sorry rebecca. I was required to loose 5% before they would do the
surgery. I just thought that was standard. So I actually weighed about 15
pounds less right before surgery.

My official weight for insurance approval was the amount I weighed upon
consultation and then any weight lost was documented as part of the
requirements for approval. My insurance however did not require weight loss
prior to approval. I actually only lost weight due to the liquid diet I was
required to be on prior to surgery.
I hope this helps.

Yes Nancy, you are correct. Your surgeon will submit for approval with the
info he/she has collected. Your PCP isn't involved at this point (if at
all).
