Question:
Has anyone had a Penrose drain in after surgery -- how was it when they removed it?
I had 2 drains, one is a penrose which is still in; the other was removed in the hospital and it was an excruciating process. I am hoping this one won't be so bad -- any encouragement? — liznjesus (posted on December 7, 2005)

Yes, I went home with a drain also. It was not bad when they pulled it out.
It kind of felt like a fish being pulled out of water. It will be fine.

I had a Penrose and a J-Tube (I think that's the name). The first was
removed in the hospital and the second one didn't come out until about 3
weeks after surgery. I had a few problems during the surgery and it needed
to stay in. I was so relieved when it finally came out that the discomfort
was a minor issue. That's not to say it wasn't miserable when he pulled
it, but it was done quickly, it was messy but it was OUT...........No more
dripping and drainage. Don't be fearful.......pull up your big girl
panties and move on. After all, look what we've gone thru to get to this
point.
