Question:
Post-op back, anyone else?
Hi everyone, I am 10 days out from a Lap RNY. Most of my pain is getting better day by day. My back is another story. I have terrible pain about mid way up my back, it usually comes on after a few minutes of standing. My surgeon says he hears of this occasionally and it just takes time to resolve, says its because of the tugging during surgery on the intestines which are attached to part of the back's inner wall. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it last? Thanks so much-Heather — tazthewiz23 (posted on December 1, 2005)

Heather,
I had the same pain after the surgery. I went to the chiropractor and he
gave me an adjustment. He said that it was muscular and not skeletal. He
said that my middle back muscles were readjusting to my weight loss due to
the fact that I was losing that big belly and my body was compensating for
that. My back is better now and it took about 6 months for it to run it's
course.

occasionally but not like I did in the beginning. It does get better.

Hi I had back pain really bad in the same place, I asked and was told that
it was air from the anastisa and from them moving around. I used a heating
pad right on that spot and it helped alot...plus getting someone to rub it
out helps.. Hope you feel better, it only last for about another month
then it will be ok.

Heather,
Are you taking anything for gas. My partner had to take anti-acids for a
couple of weeks. I don't recall her complaining of back pain -- she
already has a bad back from her time in the military so she really wouldn't
notice the difference.

Julie- I have also had that happen with my shoulders , but not to the same
degree as with my back. My back is improving a little bit though. Thank
God!

I had backaches also but mines were to the back on the left opposite where
the major incision was. I questioned the office about this and they told me
that some patients do complain of back pain but it will go away with time.
I am 23 days out and it has gotten much better now. I haven't had the
problem for about 3 or 4 days now. Hang in there. I get a pain in my back
mid area but that is usually the result of my body not liking what I ate
and I end up bringing it back up because I keep belching when I feel the
pain. It might be the same back pain as I explained but yours is in a
different area than me.
