Seltzer has carbonation in it - I would steer clear of it.

Good question! I just read an article about carbonation & weight. A
recent study said that those wanting to loose or maintain weight should not
drink carbonated drinks. They mentioned Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi but I got
the impression it referred to all carbonated drinks because of the logic
they used. Seems that the carbonation causes your stomach to expand. The
gas is released thru burps but the long term impact on the stomach is it
gets stretched....which is usually what leads to weight gain.
I was distressed to hear this because I've been enjoying the Sodium-free,
Calorie-free, caffeine-free sparkling flavored waters. Oh well.
Good luck

I am 13 mos post op and don't notice that drinking carbonated beverages
makes me more or less hungry. My nutritionist says carbonation won't
stretch your stomach or your stoma.......that is an urban legend told to
keep gb patients off soda. It takes, and I cannot stress this enough,
REPEATED overeating to stretch the pouch enough to cause weight regain.
Soda bubbles alone are not strong enough to do this. All carbonation will
do is make you gassy. My personal favorite drink is this flavored water
the local grocery store makes with splenda and fruit flavors. Tastes just
like soda, and it comes in many different flavors. Keep your body well
hydrated by drinking non-caffeinated beverages and as many as possible and
don't worry about the bubbles, if your stomach can handle them. Sorry I
realized I didn't even ask when your surgery was. I am pretty far out. I
didn't drink any carbonated drinks until 6 mos post op. Thanks.
