Question:
CAN A PREGNANCY TEST BE POSITIVE WHEN IT READS NEGATIVE

AFTER BEING 2 YEARS POST OP AND TAKING BIRTH CONTROL HAS ANYONE TAKEN A PREGNANCY TEST AND HAD IT COME OUT NEGATIVE WHEN IT REALLY WAS POSITIVE. MY LAST PERIOD WAS JAN 9, 2004 BUT IF I GOT PREGNANT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ON JAN 24TH, 2004 SO I'M NOT SURE IF THE HOME PREGNANCY TESTS STILL CANNOT DETECT THE HORMONE. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN MY PERIOD. A WEEK LATE. ANY THOUGHS    — LAURA G. (posted on February 10, 2004)

It sure can happen! I know cause it happened to me when I was expecting my son. The home test was negative, but a week, week and a half later, still no period. Something told me to go to the doc. They did a blood test and sure enough, it was positive. Just to be sure, I'd go to the doc if I were you and get a blood test. There are no false positives or negatives on that, you either are or you arent. Thank God hubby got fixed after our son was born, otherwise Id have to worry too! Good Luck!

I'd go for the bllod test . When I had one done , several years ago , they had the results the following day . Better to be safe when dealing with something this important ............

Yep, happened to me, too! I KNEW I was pregnant, and I was 4 days late for my period and was still testing negative on the home tests (even the more sensitive ones). I went and had a blood test and proved that a woman's intuition is usually RIGHT ON! P.S. This was two years ago, before I even thought of WLS, but it's the same type situation.

I would go ahead and make an appointment for a blood test. In the mean time, can you take another HPT, maybe a different brand? Some brands are more sensitive - there is pretty wide range. Also, some of the tests are just duds. The first one I took had the control line, but the pos/neg line was all funny looking, so I went out the next day and bought a First Response Early and re-took and it turned pos almost immediately.

Hi. I've been an OB/Gyn nurse for 20 years and have never seen a false positive test but I've seen many false negatives. Home pregnancy tests are supposed to be accurate 10 days after conception. Did you miss any pills this cycle or take any meds such as antibiotics? If not, you are probably not pregnant. If your period doesn't come in another few days take another pregnancy test or call your doctor. Good luck!

My false readings just turned 18 this month. (Twins) Get a blood test to be sure.
