Question:
Does Water make anyone else vomit?
It seems as though sometimes it just gets my stomach going? Anyone else? Thanks, Michele :) RNY 6/6/03 63 lbs — Michele D. (posted on August 14, 2003)

I can remember times that water made me queasy...try iced or room temp.
One or the other usually agree with someone. If that fails, try Propel,
crystal light, warm or cold tea, or ice chips. Good luck!

Hi Iam 1 week out today and water makes me "SICK" I cant take it.
I have been sucking on sugar-free fruit pops and crystal light tea, and Hot
tea seems to do well. Warm liquids seem to agree with me better though.
GOOD LUCK

Strange isn't it?... So strange that I asked my doctor why I couldn't drink
water without getting sick... but I could drink things made with water. He
didn't have an answer for me but just suggested that I drink something
besides water until I could tolerate it. At 3 months out... I'm tolerating
water much better now.

Water intolerance is actually a widely discussed unexplained phenomenon in
WLS patients. There's no explanation for it but many, many patients who
loved water before can't tolerate it after surgery. For me personally,
water made me literally feel seasick......but, let me put a squeeze of
lemon in it or make sugar free koolade with it and it went down with no
problems. Go figure!

I'm 2 weeks post-op and the first few days I really struggled with keeping
water down. I vomitted every time I took a tiny sip. Are you by chance
drinking too soon after having a protein meal? I found this to be the
problem in my situation. I was sipping water too soon after my protein meal
and that was causing my vomitting. Now I'm able to drink 4 12 oz. glasses
of water/ice chips a day, which still amazes me. I didn't think I could get
it down. I wish you luck!
