Question:
I have a {{BURNING}} question....lol

I would love any and all opinions on this one.... 2 nights ago I started having a "burning" pain in my upper right rib area when I lay day. "NOT" after I get down, just in the {{process}} of laying down...like a burning muscle when you work out till you "burn".... It never hurts when I am up and around...only when I go to lay down! But OUCH! I have had "no" problems at all since my surgery...not eating, nothing....until now...(sniff)If this "were" a muscle burning....why would it just start after such a long period of time?? I have not lifted "anything", so I don't know what I might have done wrong... Oh yeah, I am 8 weeks post-op, open RNY.... thank you for your help. I started having a burning, searing sensation in that area but it was later. It turned out to be the beginning of a hernia. Yours may not be. Ask your doctor - it could be nothing but a muscle.

Go to the Library at the top of the menu and when it opens a new window type in Pain and check to see if anyone else posted there your symptoms or possible answers... ahh just till your Dr. Appointment *grins* and *hugs*

First of all, I would run this by my surgeon just to be safe. Having said that, I will tell you what my surgeon told me, when I had a similar pain on the LEFT side. She told me that with open procedures, they try to get as much room to work in there as they can. In order to do this, when the retractors are placed on the abdominal inscision, the surgeon literally puts ALL their weight into pushing the retractors as far apart as possible. Unfortunately, this will also bruise some ribs in the process. I started having this same burning pain about 8 weeks or so out of surgery, and it lasted for about a month on and off, and finally just went away. I would guess that is what is happening, but be sure and run it by your surgeon just to be sure. Depending on the exact location, it could be other stuff that your doc might want to run tests for.
