Question:
I would love to hear from folks that are about 6 weeks post-op,
What you are eating, how much you are losing...are you tired, energetic...are you exercising and if so, how much........things of that nature!! NO, I am NOT comparing myself to anyone else....lol....I'm just a curious sort of person (smile)! Love and light, — medium (posted on January 1, 2003)

Well I am 7 weeks out today. I have lost 39 pounds it has been pretty slow
but picked up the last week. I can eat almost anything no meats bother me
I have tried small amounts of pasta and had no problem. BBQ sauce made me
dump horriedly but I am able to eat some things with sugar with no problem
no I don't make a habit of it my basic meals are meat and cheese and that
is it. My doctor wanted me to try sugar before my next visit to see how I
done on it. Good luck..

I am six weeks friday, I am down 38 lbs, I eat mostly 1 scrambled egg, Tuna
fish with a little light Mayo, Yogart, broiled chicken, Cheese with Healthy
choice Turkey, These are very small quantities.no bread I take the turkey
and put it inbetween two little peices of cheese like a appitizer. I also
make sure I get all my protein in so I drink at least one shake a day and
the best protein bars are called ZONE, I have tried many and those seem to
be the best. I have at least one a day. and of course the 64 oz of water,
which is hard, I do drink crystal light mostly. Exercise is not where it
should be I just started walking two days ago and I can only last 15
minutes, but its a start.I do have 3 lb weights I have been working my arms
since the begining, they were really bad hanging I still dont see a
difference but I am going to keep it up. I am back to work, I am a LPN and
I seem to handle it fine, there are some treatments I can not do, but they
don't mind they are so desperate for Nurses they just want me to pass meds.

I am 9 weeks post op and for the most part food just tastes funny. My head
knows immediately if my body isn't going to like what I am doing. Now, the
food tastes great until I begin to chew and chew and chew and chew. By the
time it's ready to be swollowed, it is not so great. Then I feel repulsed
by what I was trying to eat. I believe in eating good foods and chewing
lots, eathing slowwwwwwly. I take my vitamins faithfully. I don't drink
before during and right after my meals. I eat verrrry little, which is by
design. My eyes are now truly bigger than my stomach. ;) I am feeling
really good. I have lost close to 60 lbs, but I was HUGE to begin with.
Extent of exercise (moving) was almost nil before surgery. I am doing so
much better and actually enjoy walking. I use to only park my car right
near where I was going. Now I love to walk the whole parking lot. I am no
where up to my 30 minutes a day, but working towards it and feeling better
with every pound lost. Going back to work at 6 weeks post op was the best
thing I ever did. I needed 'normalcy' to my life. I am the type of person
who loves routine and sameness. New stuff and lifestyles kind of throws
me. I do adjust well in the end. This surgery was the only way for me and
someday soon, I will say it's the best thing I ever did for myself. I had
a hard time lusting and missing my old eating habits. With each pizza and
chicken commercial, I mourned. Who ever heard of a 'relationship' with a
giant tongue? hahahaha Well, maybe I have at that....on the OTHER side. I
look forward to eating small, but enjoying what I eat. I do not want to
talk 'diet'. I did not do this so I could 'diet'. I went into this thinking
I could eat what I wanted...only little amounts. I love good food...salads
(which I am missing horribly) and veggies. I just loved TONS of good food.
I am NO fan of non fat stuff. With the good substitute sweetners these
days, I can do the sugarfree. Fortunately, I have never been a big sweet
eater. Give me hamburgers, french fries, pizza, and MY MOST
FAVORITE..Chinese food anyday. <sigh> Walking and feeling so good and
so free waaaaaaay outweighs stuffing your face.

Well, at first the sight, smell, and thought of food made me want to die. I
had no interest in food and said I would never eat again. I have to admit
that I'm a very cautious eater when it comes to my new pouch (Open RNY
11/11/02) but I don't want to hurt myself. My roommate in the hospital was
already eating chicken & beef 3 weeks out and I could barely drink. It
was so disheartening and I wondered, what the hell did I do to myself? But
eventually all the post-op pain went away and I decided to venture out a
little. I have tried deli meats, turkey, chicken, and a few other things. I
had a problem the 2nd time I had chicken and I'm swearing chicken off as of
right now. But now that I can eat more normally I don't want anything. I
have no interest in food. I look in the fridge, freezer, and cabinets and
they are quite full. I constantly look in them for SOMETHING. ANYTHING. And
I find NOTHING that I can have or want. So even though I've graduated to a
more normal diet I am still stuck at peanut butter and tuna. I wake up in
the morning thinking/feeling like I'm hungry. I look around and find
NOTHING so I go without. I barely eat and I know it's hindering my weight
loss but I have absolutely no interest in food. Sometimes I'll try
something new and after a few bites spit out what's in my mouth and throw
away the remaining portion. The only things I like are skim milk and tea. I
eat peanut butter crackers and tuna but I don't LIKE them. I eat them
because I know I have to eat something.
As far as energy goes. My God! I found out from my PAT's that I was
anemic so I imagine it got worse since surgery. (i'm now looking for a
good iron supplement) So that combined with the fact I was recovering from
surgery meant I had absolutely no energy!!! I was tired all the time. In
fact, I would wake up tired. But since surgery I've been having a hard
time sleeping. Either I can't fall asleep at night or when I do fall
asleep I wake up several times throughout the night. I went back to
college nearly a month after surgery and just going to classes wore me out.
2 weeks ago I went back to work full time. I thought the work would kill
me but it hasn't! In fact, I'm feeling much better!!!
Exercise...well, I was doing NOTHING for a long time because I was in so
much pain! Recovery was (sorry to say) a bitch! I thought I was in a
living hell and could barely get out of bed without wanting to crawl under
a rock. But that went away! :o) After that I was walking. I'm still
walking but also working out on the Gazelle.
Hope this helps...

Hi there! I had lap rny about 6 weeks ago and I feel wonderful. I have
lost 35 lbs in 5 weeks (havent weighed in yet this week). Unlike some of
the other posts - I do get hungry - actually I couldnt wait to get off of
pureed foods - because I never felt full. Now that Im on solid foods - I
fill up very quickly. I do exercise. I started swimming about 2 weeks
after wls, now I am doing step aerobics and some light lifting. I did get
sick once on an omelette and I will never eat omelettes again!! Hope this
helps - feel free to email me!

I will be six weeks tomorrow. I have lost 40 lbs and about 3 dress sizes.
I am vomiting everyday. Still eating mainly soup, yogurt, non fat cheese.
I tried cream of wheat yesterday and I think it caused a lot of problems.
Certain soups also make me vomit even if I only eat the broth. I'm
discouraged that I can't eat more normally yet. I think I'll be calling
the doctor soon to see what might be wrong. I am tired, but have been
doing a lot of redecorating...painting, etc. By the way, I had lap RNY. I
wonder with the variety of answers to your question if others had a
different type of surgery.

I had lap RNY on November 20, I feel pretty good except I am quite tired.
I can not stand to drink water now so I drink alot of crystal lite and tea.
I am really having a hard time with the eat slow and chew thouroughly
thing. Old habits are hard to break. I am walking the treadmill for 30
minutes at least four times a week. And as of today I am down 40 pounds.
Food really dosen't taste that good and I only eat cause I know I have to.
I eat alot of string cheese and chicken. Hamburger does not sit well at
all. I also have at least one protein drink a day and take my
multivitamins and calcuim.

I was six weeks last Monday, and I am down 71 pds!!! Ieat regular foods but
eat mostly protein. I don't exercise per se, but am doing ALOT more than I
did before surgery. I can walk further without pain and wind up generally
more active. I am not tired and have no probs with dumping of any sort. The
only times I have thrown up were when I ate too much. I feel great!!

I am 7 weeks post op today and have lost 42 pounds. I am finally getting to
where I can eat pretty much anything I try. Unfortunately I do not dump at
all, even on sugar, but I try to limit it a lot. I stick mostly to meats
and cheeses, eggs and yogurt. I do venture other things once in a while,
just to see how they go. I did throw up once from not chewing my chicken
enough, it was ugly and I won't do that again. Now I actually count how
many times I chew! I am still not getting enough protein because I am never
hungry, I have to force myself to eat. I get in my water each day, that is
the easy part. I am upping my vitamin intake as I am not getting enough
Iron, I am sure. I am going to see my PCP on the 15th to have a CBC just to
check levels. If you want to keep in touch, my email address is
[email protected] make sure you put WLS in the subject line or I
might delete it!
