Question:
What did you start with?
Hi all, I am 3 weeks post-op, have lost 20 pounds and was cleared today by my surgeon to begin a "solid diet"... I was wondering what some of you started with!! I really want a bite or two of a New York Strip steak.....lol.... but I don't want to start off with the hardest type food to digest....so.....thought maybe you could tell me what has worked well for you!!! Thank you so much for your suggestions and input......oh...what about "creamed corn"? Love and light, — medium (posted on December 13, 2002)

I started solid foods about 10 days ago, and the first foods I tried were
the same ones I had eaten pureed (protein !)....at least I knew they agreed
with me, and this way if I had a problem I could assume it was the texture
and not the food. I found very plain fish (flounder, sole) easy to start
with, and boiled chicken was next. I also used turkey very early on. I
can now eat lean ham or veal..haven't tried a steak yet, maybe I will get
some courage this weekend!! Creamed corn didn't agree with me on a good
day, so I can't help you out there. Best of luck to you!

Wendy's Chili, the perfect starter and easy on the TUMMY...Burger King
Chili is good too, Wensy's is higher in protein...This is the first solid,
protein meal I had!

My first food was cream of wheat - then scrambled egg and baked potato.
Next came canned tuna and salmon - then baked fish. At three weeks post-op
(about) I had turkey, dressing and two green beans (it was Christmas Day).
At six weeks, I had steak, baked potato, mushrooms and Caesar salad - about
a bite of each - it was my son's 18th birthday. But I started grilled
meats about 4 weeks out - started with a little pork chop. Wendy's chili
and refried beans are good transitional foods.

I think my first semi-solid food was guacamole and some chips. It was more
of a comfort food than a nutritional thing. After that... I think I went
to soups with noodles in them and then to tuna.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question... the chili with cheese
really sounds good as does the chips and dip....lol....I was on a soft diet
for two weeks which consisted of cream soups/crackers, tuna salad, soft
scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes/gravy, turkey/dressing with gravy, soft
chicken and those such things. Tonight, since it was my first night on
"solid foods" I tried a sirloin steak! WOW!!!! It was the most
amazing steak I have ever eaten!! I had probably about a 3" x 1"
piece which I cut into about 25 very tiny bites and then chewed the heck
out of...Mmmmm melt in your mouth! Even dipped it in a little bit of steak
sauce.....truly the best meal I have had in 3 weeks...lol......anyway, I'm
still curious as to what other folks have started with, so jump on in here!
Again, thank you to those who have already posted, it's a big help!

Beef Jerky at eight days out. I chewed it until it was liquid.
