Hi Laura! Been following your surgery page posts on the message board. Glad
to see you show up on the "other side!" You are still swollen
inside so you won't be able to eat much. You didn't say what you are
eating. At this stage for me I was still on liquids. I could have more of
the liquid (say 3-4 oz) and I thought something was wrong! Turns out the
liquid just makes its way thru faster.<p>If you can only have a
tablespoon of LIQUID at a time, I would worry. You need to keep hydrated.
On the other hand, a tablespoon of FOOD sounds about right. You may not
have a "fullness" as you are used to experiencing. I didn't feel
really "full" until I got on regular food, but I did feel after
eating a little that I didn't need to eat any more. Stop when you feel
"satisfied," like that was enough to get me thru to the next
"meal" 2 hours later. Hope this helps!

Hey, I am also 6 days post op and I also have about a tablespoon per meal.
I did however, just yesterday, add a protein shake to my liquids because I
was feeling very weak and only getting a few grams of protein in. It is
really helping. I have also been told this is the norm. Kinda awkward
when pre-op someone could not have tied my hands and I only have a
tablespoon of anything. Good Luck.

The first couple of weeks I had a hard time getting much food in. Even
water was tough. The only thing I could drink for some reason was
sugarfree koolaid and sugarfree popsicles. The 3rd week I was able to eat
a little more. Hang in there it gets better and of course you get more use
to the "NEW" eating habits.

I am almost 3 weeks post-op and am starting to eat some regular foods and
have just started to get a full feeling. My personal advice for new
post-ops is just stick to your surgeons guidelines and eat what you can and
what sounds good. Drink as much water as you can. It will only be tiny sips
at first. I can now drink pretty big gulps. The main thing is keep dyrated
and learn how to eat all over again. It is so weird! We don't know what to
eat or how to eat. We don't want to hurt ourselves or make ourselves sick.
We worry, worry, worry and you know what? It all works out. Everything will
be going smooth for you in the next couple weeks. You will have the food
and water thing down and you will feel comfortable with your new tummy. I
know it feels so weird at first :-) Just take one day at a time and it will
all be fine.
