Question:
Has anyone not taken vitamins post op ?
I have only taken vitamins a couple of times - I eat a very well rounded diet - Is this going to be alright ? Do I really need vitamins ? — [Anonymous] (posted on September 7, 2001)

No one can really answer this question for you. Without seeing your blood
work, no one can know whether your diet is allowing you to get the vitamins
you need. See your PCP or an endocrinologist and set 2 appts. 1 for
giving the blood, and 1 for talking about the results. Get a copy of the
results and if you are deficient, find out what your doc suggests to fix
the problem. If indeed you are deficient, schedule an appt for another 3
months, work on the deficiency then check your blood again. Good luck!

I have to agree with Barb -- I keep my vitamins out where I can see them.
They are always on my desk at my office, and I keep another bottle above my
kitchen sink. I have also found the GNC KIDS Multi-Bite Complete to be a
good choice, because, unlike many children's chewables, this contains
biotin (for trying to minimize hair loss). I eat a well-balanced diet too,
and get plenty of vegetables (since that's what I crave most), and I
supplement my protein, so no problem there, but why risk not getting what
you need? So far, my labs have been great, and I plan on keeping them that
way. Best of luck!

I would have your blood work done regularly if you chose not to take the
vitamins.. you could be risking more than you know. Be careful.. it would
be sad to end up down the road having problems you cant fix :(
