Question:
Anyone out there who has had the surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in NH?
I am beginning the process of gathering information about Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. This is the only hospital that I am aware of that has a bariatric program. Like to hear your comments about their process. I understand that there is a 15 lb weight loss required. Has this been difficult for anyone? What were your experiences with this hospital. — [Anonymous] (posted on August 28, 2001)

Depending on where you live, Dr. Laurie Spaulding in Burlington, VT also
does gastric bypass surgery but she only does the open surgery. You are
also required to attend 3 support grup meetings before they schedule
surgery. One thing you should make sure you do is go to your physician and
have them send your medical records for the last year to Dartmouth. I
forgot to do this and because of that I could have had my first appointment
2 weeks ago. As far as the 15 lbs it's just something you have to do. I'm
working on it now and have lost 6 lbs in a week so far. It's hard but if
you are motivated and ready to have surgery losing the 15lbs will prove
that. You have to prove that you can eat less now, you have to be able to
control yourself or you won't be able to after surgery. It really does
make sense when you think about it. Good luck!

My experience with Dartmouth Hospital was great. I had my surgery there
last Sept 6. almost a year now!! I have lost 106 lbs so far, I wish it was
more but I have a lot of other problems too, so I guess that is pretty
good. Feel free to email me on any help I can give you. Good Luck
