Question:
How do I report a Doctor?
I was recently treated terribly by a specialist. He disregarded patient confidentiality, insulted me and much more. If I wished to make a complaint, where and how would I do so? Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks! — [Anonymous] (posted on August 23, 2001)

I would contact your local medical board... here in Oregon you can start at
http://www.bme.state.or.us/ I wish you luck and hope you do pursue this.

I once reported a doctor to my State Board of Medical Examiners. They sent
me a form and I filled it out along with a letter detailing my complaint.
I was rather dissapointed because the form was all about prescribing
narcotic drugs innapropriately. I got the impression that if no serious
law was broken, they didn't care. However, I think these things are
tracked and if enough people complain, it might make a difference. I would
CC the doctor on the letter you send so he knows how offensive his
behaviour was and that you took the steps you could against him. Good
luck.

What a jerk! First, tell your PCP so he won't send anyone else to that guy!
Then look up the State Board of Medical Examiners. If you have info on any
MD organizations he's in, you can report him to them. Let your insurance
know too. Also the hospital he practices at. either that or forget it, he's
a jerk anyway!! Don't let it consume you. Good Luck Linda
