Question:
Can anyone else eat whatever they want and still lose alot of weight?
I am almost 7 months post op...DS surgery. I eat whatever I want for the most part and seem to be losing almost too quickly. Iv'e lost 100lbs and have about thirty more to go.It's been very steady.Has anyone else had this happen to them? — [Anonymous] (posted on August 12, 2001)

I had a BPD(no DS) in May, and have lost 55 lbs. I can't have anything
with more than a gram or so of sugar in it, but other than that, I eat
whatever I want. What amazes me so much with my surgery is the amount of
food I can eat. I am able to eat two sandwiches at one sitting, or a big
cheeseburger and fries, or a steak and baked potato, etc. I know I am not
losing as fast as some, but my quality of life is great, and the weight
will stay off because of the malabsorbtion. I am thrilled with my surgery
choice!

I don't seem to get sick with any type of food. And I
eat what I want but it seems that I have hit a plateau
because of it. I think eating whatever we want defeats the
purpose of having the surgery. We need to re-teach ourselves
to eat...to eat healthy and drink lots of water. So you might
lose all of the weight you want but keeping it off might be
hard if we abuse the tool given to us. I keep thinking to
myself why did I have the surgery if I am not willing to change
my eating habits. Before we eat what we used to like we used to
we should think about what we went through first.

I wasn't worried about this at first, but I checked my goals this weekend
and found that, at 3 months out, I only have 25 pounds to my goal (27% body
fat). I am currently losing about 2-3 pounds a week and eat about 800-1000
calories a day (this is all I want). I can eat pretty much what I want and
only bread and sugar make me sick. I am a little worried that I will lose
too much. I never thought I would be this close to my goal this fast! I
know that most people continue to lose weight for 18 months to 2 yrs. Am I
going to turn into skin and bones or be forced to consume a steady diet of
prime rib and loaded baked potatoes? I know this will probably take care of
itself and what a wonderful thing to have to be concerned about! But still
. . .
