Question:
Is there any such thing as temporary SSI?
If you have medicaid, and do not work, can you get temporary SSI until you recover from surgery? — [Anonymous] (posted on August 11, 2001)

the very best thing to do is call the social security office, they make all
those decisions.

I can tell you that you have to be diabled for at least 2 months before
they will even let you apply. Then you have to be unable to work for at
least a year. It's a hard process to be accepted and usually takes months,
in whick you will more than likley be back to work. I do suggest that if
you are low income and if you have kids below the age of 18, that you may
be able to get some sort of Aid for families with dependent children or
tanf or welfare from your local dept. Of Human Services. They evev have
programs for undereemployed parents (meaning one or both parents work, but
don't get a lot of money and can get help).
Good luck
