Can surgeons charge program fees to Medicare and Medicaid patients?

8-7-01 Doctors cannot charge any fees at all if you are Medicaid and they
are a Medicaid provider. There are no co-payments and doctors and other
providers can't ask you for one penny. But Medicare is very different and
even if a doctor accepts Medicare assignment they are still authorized and
legally able to collect additional monies from a client for any services
they offer. (Of course they don't have to though... and some won't ask you
to pay additionally). Medicaid is definitely the best insurance out there
from a financial standpoint. Fran Gomez
