Question:

lay still? Any help will be appreciated !!!!! — [Anonymous] (posted on August 2, 2001)

My husband had his Greenfield filter placed in January, prior to his RNY in
February. The radiologist originally had hoped to insert the filter
through one of the neck veins, but due to my husband's weight was unable to
do so and had to insert the filter through the large vein in the groin
area. If he had been able to use the neck vein, he could have come home as
soon as he woke up from the sedation. Due to the increased chance of
bleeding from a groin insertion site, he had to stay for 4 hours in an
observation bed before he was allowed to sit up or walk around. He was
then instructed to go home and rest...do no lifting or straining for 24
hours...then resume activity as normal the next day. He was given IV
sedation for the procedure, reported no discomfort at all, and had no
problems or complications. Different physicians may have slightly
different routines, but it should be a relatively simple procedure for you.
Good luck!
