Question:
Can someone who's had VBG give me some info?
I just got insurance approval to go ahead with my lap VBG but I haven't been able to find a good shopping list for myself. (Everything is guided toward the RNY) Also, any info on what kind of pre op testing I may have to expect? VBG patients are kind of hard to come by and I'd appreciate any info someone could provide. Thanks — Amy E. (posted on July 25, 2001)

I had my VBG in 1984 and do not remember any testing being done other than
pre-op bloodwork and respiratory eval (I have asthma). I am now preparing
for a revision to RNY. If you click on "Library" at the top
right of the page it will take you to an unsurmountable number of questions
and answers. I just recently found it myself. Good Luck

Basically, the list is the same except for rny you need to avoid sugar. But
since you are trying to lose the weight making the same no sugar, low fat
choices will help you speed your loss. Essentially, you start out on the
same liquids, clears, purees, etc.but eventually you can have sugar if you
want but you wont lose as quickly. more sugar = more calories.

Amy - There are a LOT of VBG'ers out there - if you'll go
to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vbg
and join the list, you'll find over 400 of us and you will find a wealth of
(accurate) info and support and very successful VBG'ers!!
