Question:
Good sources of potassium other than bananas?
I hate bananas. Any other sources of potassium that are just as good? Thanks! — Kimberly L. (posted on July 23, 2001)

I tend to struggle with this issue - I hope this helps. Potatoes are high
in potasssium - Tomato or V8 Juice. A 5.5 oz can of V8 has 380 mg of
potassium. I hope this helps some!! Oh yes, check your protein drinks
also. Good Luck, Karan

At the local store, my father found a salt substitute that is all
potassium. It's very strong and concentrated. You can use it the same way
you use salt, just sprinkle a little on whatever you're eating. My
potassium is dangerously low so I can relate.

Orange juice is a very good source. I found a Minute Maid brand that has
no pulp and is low acid. I tolerate it very well and drink about two 8 oz
glasses a day. I was having terrible restless leg syndrome and this has
helped greatly.

For proper absorption of potassium, make sure you're getting enough
magnesium too. Foods high in magnesium are: yellow corn and yellow corn
meal, apples, dried soybeans and soy milk, sunflower seeds, parsley, oats,
cabbage and whole wheat.

Do you have labs that indicate your potassium is low? Since it can affect
your heart, you might want to be careful in taking in high potassium foods,
unless you have numbers to work with. Not being one to take a single
useless calorie, I supplement with OTC potassium, and take them according
to my most recent lab work. Each of us is different, but labs do not lie.

Just wanted to add that tomatoes, artichokes, and pink grapefruit juice
have a lot of potassium....
