Question:
Why did I gain 7 pounds in one week? (New info)
I know that I asked this question yesterday but I have some more information that may help someone help me. Just to refresh, I've lost 114 pounds in less than 11 months. As of last week I was 10 pounds from goal (130). This week I gained 7 pounds. I admit that I wasn't careful about choices. I also drank during my meals. BUT 7 POUNDS??? Now I just wanted to add that I had a fever last week and was given some cough medicine & antibiotics. In addition, I have noticed some swelling in my hands and feet. Finally, I have been suffering from extreme gas pains for three days now. I have moved my bowels and passed a little bit but nothing significant. And it hurts. Now I am worried! Is it really not gas and some sort of disruption?? I would probably think it was a disruption but my quantity is limited still. If I disrupted, wouldn't I be able to eat more? What's going on here? thanks — [Anonymous] (posted on July 17, 2001)

No, with SLD you can't suddenly eat more, generally. It's gradual. For
some, sure the staple line opens like a ziper, one tiny flaw and
unZZZZZZZZZZZip! But not like you can still eat 2 oz at Tuesday dinner and
8 oz WEd for lunch. Because of your other symptoms, you'll need to drag
yourself into the doc and be checked, of course, as the two may not be
related to one another. Or they might. But he will know. How is your
breath? Has anyone mentioned your color lately or anything like that?

well, I'm not a doctor, but you did say you have swelling of your hands and
feet (probably some water retention). That can add a couple of pounds.
Not watching what you eat can add a couple, nor weight fluctuations can
account for a couple. I wouldn't get too panicky, but would ask my doctor.

If you took Levaquin for your antibiotic it notoriously makes people retain
a lot of water after you finish taking it. I have no idea why, but I do
know that I have been on it twice and each time I was swollen in my hands,
ankles and feet for days. Gas is also an issue or side effect. I am pre-op
wls so the Levaquin affected me one way, and it might affect you another
way. If it concerns you, call your doctor and ask him to prescribe a mild
diuretic, that should take care of it. You might also ask him if there is
any kind anti-gas remedy you can take to offset the gas you are having.
