Question:
I haven't been 100 lbs overweight for 5 years, will I have trouble with BC/BS?

Although I've been overweight for all of my life, I only got to the morbidly obese stage about 3 or 4 years ago. I've read in several areas that BC/BS requires a 5 year/100 lb excess for 5 years to approve. My doctor doesn't weigh patients unless there is a reason because he feels constant pressure about weight keeps many people from going for medical help when needed. I appreciate that, but the downside is I have very little official documentation of my weight gains thru the years. Do I have cause to worry?    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 16, 2001)

I have BC/BS. I have been overweight for five years and not 100 lbs overweight until I made a phone call and they told me to gain the extra pounds to be 100 lbs overweight! It worked. I got approved. Good luck!
