Question:
Do insurer's ever give approvals over the phone?

I've contacted my insurance company and they have said that they cover WLS so long as the diagnosis is morbid obesity and there are no restrictions. Is my surgeon still going to have to go through the long process of sending the info packet?    — Amy E. (posted on June 21, 2001)

My insurance gave approval over the phone, but my surgeon's office wouldn't start anything until they had a hard copy of the approval..

Hi Amy, the surgeon still has to send the info packet to the ins co even though it's possible to get the approval over the phone. I wish you all the best.
