Question:
Has anyone ever been denied wls
because of severe sleep apnea? — [Anonymous] (posted on June 20, 2001)

Hi,
I was told (by the surgeon) that I could not have the surgery unless I had
been on a titrated C-PAP for a minimum of 4 weeks before surgery.(Insurance
denied my WLS) So I can imagine that you could be denied if you were not on
a CPAP. I would verify this with your doctor. Hope this helps.
Good Luck

Hi, I'm not quite sure if your asking about insurance denial or surgery
denial. But if you're asking if the ins co will deny your request for wls
because of severe sleep apnea, then I would say that that would be a reason
for them to approve. I was denied twice and shortly before the request was
to be reviewed a third and final time, the result of my sleep study was
sent to my pulmonologist and he wrote a letter to the ins co on my behalf
stating that I suffer severe sleep apnea and require CPAP therapy and
supplemental oxygen. I was approved. Hope this helps.
