Question:
Has anyone had the Glucose Tolerance Testing done after having the WLS ?
My sugar levels have been high this week.. Prior to surgery I was Border Line Diabetic.. and then I have been fine until this past week..I was thinking of going to the Dr to see about this. But, I am scared of the Glucose Tolerance Testing cause, I know all the drinks they have you drink is chuck full of Sugar and I am scared of dumping.. Has anyone had this test done and did ok with those Glucose Drinks???? Please let me know.. Thanks — Debbie R. (posted on June 14, 2001)

Debbie R. Take a look at the web site www.gastricbypass.com and scroll down
on the left side to the For Doctors Only section. Your answer is under the
heading Side Effects! Good luck!

Yes, I did have a three hour blood glucose tolerance test just a few weeks
ago. I did fine with the test. I did feel a bit of light headedness about
ten minutes after drinking the foul, sugary liquid, but that passed quickly
& I had no problems with the test. BTW, all my numbers came out just
fine--very good news. All my other tests came back fine, too, including
protein amounts which were fine, albeit on the lower end of the normal
range. One note, however, is that I don't dump on anything I have tried so
far & at 15 months post op, I have tried almost everything. So, I don't
know if someone who dumps easily might have a problem with this test or
not.
